Description
I was really looking to capture the ball going through the ring with the sun making a silhouette; the tangle of hands, seemingly held up in supplication, was a bonus, but it makes the image!Processing (Lightroom): Straightened (vertically); increased the contrast (to defeat a bit of the flare); reduced the "highlights", which both made the sun "pop" a bit more, and gave some more detail in the clouds; cropped to 5x7 (I think). Β No change to white balance, believe it or not.

Great image - the angle making for the silhouette is great.
Was this in a 'live game', or set up for the shot? - just curious on your shooting process.

Thank you for your kind comments - I'm a lover of silhouettes, shadows and reflections!
And it was a live game - my daughter's team. Β I saw the strong sunlight, and the ball against it, and thought I might be lucky enough to get a few "sequence" images. Β I rarely, if ever, get to "set up" shots - have to keep my eyes open, and hope I can get a decent image!

I to am a 'finder' of images, rather than a 'maker'.
Good forethought.

It is very satisfying to "find" images rather than make them, isn't it? The thrill of capturing either exactly what you saw, or something entirely unexpected, cannot be measured!

Indeed. For me, it is a little bit the sense of 'natural' vs 'artificial'.
Other folk express their creativity by, well creating - making something. Sometimes I turn my hand to that, but that is tending more to the moving picture space.

That makes lots of sense to me - we seem to think in a very similar way. Β I agree that the creating does really lend itself better to moving pictures - a kind of strict choreography that, when it's all put together, looks effortless and natural. Β It's many, many years since I had anything to do with movie making, and I confess that I find the process of slicing the creative image into small pieces in order to be able to assemble them again into something beautiful extremely difficult. I admire those who do not see it like labour, but rather love the entire process.

It certainly is a chunk of work, but I generally do enjoy the process (geeky nature showing there). It is important to have something 'worth' making - family memories are on that list, but random narrative stuff not. And having a team you can work with is important. One takes opportunities as they comes - essentially, as they are found!
