Description
This was the only shot I got of this little boy looking out the window of the Rivercat on a trip home from the city. It was just too good an opportunity to miss.I bumped the contrast a bit, to make the silhouette really black, and cropped it square. I think that's about it!
As always, your comments are appreciated!

One of the most beautiful photos I have ever seen! I love the contrast between soft warm light and cold frozen window, but the most I love the boyยดs thoughtful expression, which is so beautifuly visible, even if it is "only" silhouette. Story, emotions and atmosphere in totaly simple, but amazingly beautiful image!
Featured in my slide show "People - jewels from your galleries" on my profile...

Thank you so very much! I really appreciate your kind comments, and your womderful reading of the image. I love it too, not least because it was a quickly stolen shot, and a one-off - I had no chance for a second!
Thanks so much for making this a favourite, and for featuring it in your profile page slide show! I can't tell you how much I appreciate this!

The silhouette is just the right depth of almost (but not quite) formless, and the lighting is gorgeous! Lovely

This is a great shot!
I love the colour and the darker tones. But most of all I love the the subject, the little boy is very cute.
(even just as a silhouette)
Beautifully done.

Thank you so much! I'm really fond of this, and it was a one-off - I had very little time to grab it, so I'm really pleased it turned out so well! He's another "unknown person", I must confess - I was feeling very brave haha!

Your welcome (on both counts)!!
A lot of your work has been sitting in my WATCH box and I'm happy to finally get along to favouriting and commenting all of it!
I really love all of your "impromptu" photography and I can't wait to see more!

You are very sweet, no doubt about it. Umm, I have the same issue with your work - sitting in my watch box, that is - so I'm not complaining, though I am always delighted by your comments.
I hope there will be more - just for you lol

I really like the way you cropped and shaded the photo... it certainly highlights the "sensations" !!

Thanks so much, M - I really like this, too. I had only a second to get this shot, and I feel privileged to have grabbed it. I did very little aside from the crop and increase the contrast slightly - the late afternoon sun really was that deep yellow colour!
I'm so glad you like it - and thanks for the !

Sometimes the best shots are those we get in just a second!
And when we see what we got, we are happy, because it turns out so well!
I like it a LOT!! And you are most welcome, Craig!

This has a really nice feel to it. It feels soft and silent and peaceful... sort of like coming home after a long journey. I love that amber background, it adds a lovely surreal touch

smallcraig1606 In reply to samjo989 [2009-07-29 12:21:10 +0000 UTC]
I know what you mean - the figure has a sort of unselfconsciousness that conveys a feeling of peace. And would you believe that the colour of the background was the colour of the sunlight coming through the window? It may be a little darker than in reality, but the colour is essentially natural !
๐: 0 โฉ: 1
samjo989 In reply to smallcraig1606 [2009-07-29 14:36:44 +0000 UTC]
Perhaps natural colours are best -- after all, why try to recreate beauty that's already there?
๐: 0 โฉ: 1
smallcraig1606 In reply to samjo989 [2009-07-29 15:31:57 +0000 UTC]
I agree completely - sometimes subtle changes enhance the natural, and sometimes "gross" changes are excellent to produce a desired effect, but I like to keep the colours as close to what I saw as possible.

I'm in a bit of an arty mood, can you tell?!? I just popped outside to take some pictures! The light was very nice you see. It being 4am there was very little of it and I was taking pictures of me looking rather Harajuku!
I'll post them tomorrow when I can get them on photoshop!

Harajuku is an area in Tokyo that is basically a fashion mecca for wild and outrageous clothing. I'm most certainly a huge fan!

And you mention so casually about your bout of glandular fever! I'm so sorry to hear that you were so sick! It can take quite a while to recover from - I hope you're on the mend, and are quickly better!

Ooh, tonsils out ... That is slightly uncomfortable. I had mine out when I was 7 - good Lord, that's almost 40 years ago ... how ancient I feel lol!
"Worse things happen at sea" ... Your're not channelling your sister by any chance, are you? That sounds just like something she would say haha ...

hotpotatoes1 In reply to smallcraig1606 [2009-08-27 10:41:05 +0000 UTC]
I got the letter today about my tonsils! I have to call them up to make an appointment - scary! Plus I'm getting my GCSE results in about half an hour! EEK!
We both say "worse things happen at sea". It's a common phrase in our house. God, our house is mad, though.

smallcraig1606 In reply to hotpotatoes1 [2009-08-27 14:13:27 +0000 UTC]
! It is a bit scary, but the worst thing is the anticipation - the actual doing of it once you get there won't be nearly as bad as you anticipate. Is this what caused your hospital visit? No wonder you have to have them out!
OK, so by the time you read this you will have your GSCE results (and that stands for ... ?). So, what's the good news? Tell me tell me tell me - but you may have to translate, so be prepared for dumb questions, ok?
Ah, a general marine malady meandering about your mansion? (Sorry, I couldn't help myself). A mad house is a great place to grow up. I'm sure you treasure it.

Biology - A
Chemistry - A*
Drama - A
English Language - A
English Literature - A
Geography - A
Maths - A
Physics - A*
Spanish - A So... I'm incredibly happy!
'Twas wonderful growing up in a mad house. Suited me doen to the ground!

Well, the answers are quite straightforward - and astounding! You could do anything you wanted with results like that! I am soo happy for you - and your parents (and big sister) must be incredibly proud of their daughter (and sister), as they should be! That is truly wonderful! Btw, do the A* have any significance - was it better than an A, but it was the best they could do?

smallcraig1606 In reply to hotpotatoes1 [2009-08-31 08:12:52 +0000 UTC]
That's amazingly fantastic! I suspected it was better than an A, but I wasn't sure. You must have had some inkling that you would do well - you would have had to study pretty hard, I expect - or are you one of those super-smarties that tries, but doesn't have to try too? hard?
๐: 0 โฉ: 1
hotpotatoes1 In reply to smallcraig1606 [2009-08-31 10:05:43 +0000 UTC]
I worked my socks off for some of my subjects. The ones I worked hardest at are Maths, Physics and Drama, so I'm particularly happy with those grades. I had to take out of school maths lessons to get that grade!
But I really thought I'd get Bs with a few As thrown in! I was so shocked, I started crying right there in the middle of the hall!

Crying at such good marks - a perfectly normal reaction
Well, considering your expectations, you did extremely well - no wonder you cried!
