Many people consider that wheel is a very important finding for humanity, immediately after how to use the fire. Your photo, dignified and with the scent of past ,is like some monument of the wheel.Compliment

Thank you. Absolutely right: the World would be a very different place without the wheel.

Beautiful photograph I wonder what sort of cart it came from?

Thank you. Difficult to say, as there was no cart with it, I suppose it could even have been farm equipment eg. a plough or something similar. Thanks for commenting.

No problem At first glance I thought it may have come from a field rake.

I'm sure that is very possible: much of the countryside around is farmland and I imagine in old times most of the land was farmed. The wheel was on land belonging to a chambre d'hote, which is a beautiful old 17th century house which used to have a coach house attached (now converted into a swimming pool!) which housed carriages. So, equally, it may be that the wheel was off one of those carriages. We're going back there in the summer so I'll try and remember to ask about the origin of the wheel!

That was my second guess, horse carriages. A coach house pool sounds pretty unique.

Yes it's quite a conversion! If you are interested there are photos in my "Scraps" folder entitled Auvergne 1, Auvergne 2 and Auvergne 3. The first shows the old house with the converted coach house to the right. Second shows the pool room: (converted from the coach house) the building behind the cars with barred windows and the third shows the pool itself.  fav.me/d8nf8q1  fav.me/d8nf9an and fav.me/d8nf9je  Also Auvernge 4 fav.me/d8nfnbp

If that wheel could only talk. It could probably tell some great stories from times that have gone by.

Oh couldn't it just! I think I could have quite enjoyed living the simple life in a rural, French village of old.
