Description

It didn’t take long for Seren to locate Ducky, and even less to convince the quad gro to sneak out to search for Zora. However, Seren wasn’t as quiet as they originally thought. Before either could get a foot out the tent, a familiar yellow arm reached out and grabbed Seren,stopping the quill in their tracks.

“Shasta? What are you doing awake?” Seren whispered, turning their head just enough to glance at the wyngling.

“I h-heard you planning on sneaking out.” Shasta mumbled, gaze falling to the floor yet his arm remained where it was. He seemed to draw in a deep breath before his eyes darted back up to meet Seren’s once more, “I-I thought you said you wouldn’t l-leave camp.”

Seren winced at the hurt that lightly coated Shasta’s tone. “I-I know” Seren silently hissed at themselves, cursing at the tremble in their voice. “Just. Z-zora’s not in here, she’s g-gotta be out there and I want to find her before anything bad happens to her.”

“What about you, what if something bad happens to you?” hurt was now replaced with concern and Seren could barely register how his grip had tightened around their arm. His voice came out pitchy and slightly strained, “What i-if you got hurt? O-Or lost or- or-” he hiccuped

Seren gently wrapped their arms around him, drawing soothing circles around his shoulders, “hey, shhh, none of that okay? Yeah the woods is dangerous, especially right now but I-I’ll have Ducky with me, so if anything does go wrong he can protect me okay?”

    “But what if-”

    “There isn’t gonna be a what if.” Seren quickly cut the other wyngling off, staying in the embrace for a few seconds longer before pulling away. “Go back to sleep okay? I’ll be back by morning.” their face held a soft expression before they walked to Ducky who was already at the entrance of the tent.

    Seren flashed Shasta one more reassuring smile before silently slipping out of the tent not far from Ducky.
