I had a TON of notes on Arms and Hands, and fingers. I grabbed what I thought was most important for this tutorial. It was a pain in the butt to place things in some dicernable order, so I hope it doesn't confuse!ENJOY!!!

and how do you proportion a hand to the rest of the average female body? Like, a fourth of the arm or what? That's the only thing that's really bugging meβ¦

Usually a hand is about as large as the face when completely spanned out. The middle finger reaches the top of the forehead, and the bottom of the palm should reach the chin

I would say all three. I loved to draw so focused on art classes in school. In college it was the same. I read books. Drew from magazines. I did alot of self study. These patterns are the result of observation.
