Just more violent render testing, but I thought I'd share some examples of why contrast is important and what originally led me to making Sahmika black.

The top row is just a continuation of the test fight pictures I posted yesterday. I wanted to see if changing the poses and camera angle in the same environment would result in large lighting changes, but since the emissive lighting in this scene was strong and there were few shadows, nothing was really affected.

The bottom row shows three identical renders except for changes to the characters' skin tones and some of my own thoughts about why having character variety is important.
