Description After SquallLion asked me about Puppeteer, I figured I'd throw together a quick tutorial showing how it can be used for making poses and expressions. The most important thing is to remember that each dot you place saves EVERYTHING, so it's best to decide whether you're going to work on expressions or poses first and save anything you like as a real preset. It's a very useful tool though, and can really help you adjust expressions easily without having to manually change all the dials.

Hope it helps someone! I'll get back to real Smacky pics soon, just have to finish some unexpected work. Thanks for taking a look!

Puppeteer is included with DAZ Studio, available at www.daz3d.com.

There's a lot more you can do with Puppeteer, especially for animation, but hopefully my little tip here can at least get you started.Β  Β  Thanks!

Thanks to you, I've opened the puppeteer window for the first time of my life (except when I opened it by accident)!
I have just used it for playing with camera framing, and this is a really great tool, so fluid! Thanks again for your advice!

I'm glad I found this. I took one look at the Puppeteer when I first got Daz, closed the pane, and never re-opened it. Maybe now I actually won't mind doing my own posing since this gives an easier way to mix them.

I'm glad it helped! I really find it most useful to 'quick save' poses and morphs so I can go back to them if I experiment and mess up an earlier version that was better.

I donΒ΄t remember seeing this tutorial before.
Pretty cool! But I need to practice to better understand. I still find this puppeteer a bit confusing.

Yes, it was a little confusing for me at first too. Basically it saves a pose (with all morphs) as a dot. By moving the cursor in between two dots, it gives you a mix of the morphs and poses from the dots that it's between. It's really more useful for posing than morphs; for example, you place one dot with the figure's arm up, then another with their arm down. You can then easily animate or pose the arm by moving the cursor between the two dots.

I hope that makes sense!

You know as a way to give a hint of an expression it is a great tool. Never thought of it that way. Thank you for sharing..some of us are learning as we go and it helps when people like you take the time to share

I'm very glad I can help! Learning 3D is tough (especially when Studio users have gotten less than a complete manual), so I do try to help when I can.

thank your image tutorial!

daz do not have detail manual how to use papettier,
pupettier is free powerful tool!

I think it can use for making morph too.

(so I do not like 4.5RC )

SnowSultan In reply to TKdazman [2012-06-23 16:00:45 +0000 UTC]

Thanks, I'm glad it was helpful! It does change morphs too, so be careful if you save a pose from a saved dot. I just read that the problem with it will be fixed for the next 4.5 version, so we can use it again soon.

Great info SS - I never would have thought of using puppeteer this way, in fact, I've never really bothered with it. Thanks for posting this!
