Woo, space steampunk! Sort of.
The Endymion-class Frigate is the most common Star Ironclad of the Machinist Empire's stellar fleet. Like all of their space warships, the external armour of the Endymion is not actually iron, though some of its internals are, the name of 'Space Ironclad' simply coming from their shape, intended to be reminiscent of their water-bound predecessors, and purpose as heavily armoured vessels capable of withstanding serious damage. This particular Endymion is the HMSS Renascent, one of the frigates assigned to flagship escort of the Royal Space Navy's Battlegroup Two, the Lancelot.
ARMAMENT: The Endymion-class is armed with, in total:
>6 Broadside Heat Rays.
>2 Heavy forward Heat Rays.
>2 Medium Heat Ray turrets.
DEFENCE: The Endymion-class is protected by Machinist-standard Shockplate, a material derived from the alien technology of the 1860s/70s, which can detonate explosives early and flashfry kinetic projectiles, though it is not guaranteed to do either with the frigate's somewhat minor charge. In addition, the broadside and turret Heat Rays can fire brief pulses with much greater speed and accuracy. While too weak to do any serious damage to an enemy warship, these serve in place of dedicated point defence.
