Description One of the mainstays of the Synthesis navy, the Chimera-class is a robust and capable ship. While tiny in comparison to vessels like battleships or dreadnoughts, the Chimera, for its size, possesses able firepower and defence.

DEFENCE
Vortex Shield:
The Vortex Shield is the standard combat shield employed by Synthesis vessels. This combines a gravity well and a particle shield, capable of stopping kinetic and energy weapons while mitigating the effects of gravity weapons and munitions designed to open holes in shields.
Aegis Barrier: The Aegis Barrier is the Synthesis' answer to the difficulties of repairing external hull armour after battle. A secondary shield of sorts, the Aegis Barrier is very close fitting to the vessel. The generator(s) is/are partially encased in blocks of superceramic armour, and when the generator reaches critical overload, the excess heat and energy is discharged into the armour blocks, effectively a kind of 'internal armour'. Provided the system lasts, post-battle these blocks simply need to be removed and replaced. The Chimera possesses two Aegis generators.
Chorbite Plate: Despite the presence of the Vortex Shield and the Aegis Barrier, the Synthesis still see the need to armour their frontline warships. Chorbite Plate is the standard armour material of the Synthesis, and is comprised of a similar superceramic to that used in the Aegis Barrier system, with faults in square meter blocks to avoid shattering entire sections. Behind this is a gel layer for added kinetic defence, and these are sandwiched between two low-conductivity polymer plates. The external plate is given an additional coating that helps disperse the heat of energy weapons.

OFFENCE
NR2 Medium Sandcasters:
The standard offensive ship-to-ship gun of the Synthesis, the NR2 MSC by default fires streams of high-velocity metallic particulates, and the weapon can alter the spread of these. If this is insufficient, these weapons are capable of functioning as conventional railguns. The NR2 is as much a defensive tool as it is a weapon, as it can be devastating against enemy missiles.
NR1 Light Sandcasters: The lightest sandcaster in use by the Synthesis, the NR1 possesses far less firepower than the NR2, but is quicker to aim and is a smaller target, making it powerful against fightercraft and missiles. As such, the NR1 usually serves as a purely defensive tool, though in some situations the NR1 is employed against smaller warships.
Missile Bays: The Chimera possesses a number of missile bays and can maintain a steady rate of fire. Synthesis missiles are, by default, cold-fired using electromagnetic induction coils in the tubes, and the Synthesis employs a variety of missile types. The standard is a fusion bomb; limited in area of effect but powerful within.
Null Mass Accelerator: This weapon is most commonly employed as a spinal weapon by Synthesis vessels due to the power requirements being too high to employ as a turret weapon in most vessel classes. The Null Mass Accelerator uses higgs fields to accelerate high-density slugs the railgun forming the body of the NMA would struggle with to extreme velocities. As the slug leaves the railgun, mass is normalised and velocity is largely maintained. The Chimera class possesses one Null Mass Accelerator, and is the smallest Synthesis vessel outside of specialised vessels to carry one.
