Description
Sobek heaved himself from the thick muck of his resting place. Its muddy mangrove roots snapping and clearing way for the hulking body of the beast as he arose from his months of deep slumber. The smaller critters of the jungle began their routinely escape from the mass, with the flying ones flooding the sunlit sky with their speedy flapping wings. Sobek took several deep breaths, loud enough to contest storms, but calm enough to not disrupt the peace of the lands. His head tiled to the right with a large claw greeting it, scratching behind his eye with rough strokes and sending patches of mud and vegetation everywhere. Taking aim to the distance ahead, Sobek began to fully awake, thinking about his first order of business, a good snack to eat. As his titanic form shoved through the muddy canals, He began to recount of past experiences, memories flooding back into his mind, powerful enough to make him lose his footing for a second. He envisioned a concrete jungle, illuminated by burning rubble and charcoal black debris. The thought of this confused him, visibly shaking him for a second as if something clicked in him. He remembers this, but the memory is still hazy, forcing him to return to his hunt for prey.Swimming off from the Drowning Mangrove and into the Jade Abyss, Sobeks prey of choice today was an Espritabaline, a massive amphibian resembling a whale which was rich in fat and the perfect meal for Sobek. They usually hang out within the Shallows of the Jade Abyss, avoiding the larger predators of the deeper seas, but Sobek has figured out their methods and knows how to ambush their migrations. Despite being so large and revealing, Sobek maneuvers his way through the deeper slopes of sand, getting just close enough to remain undetected from a passing pod of Espritas. Their vocalizations make him keep sharp focus on their whereabouts, hearing them move ever closer into his trap. Finally as they drift into striking range, the ocean erupts with a loud burst of waves and finally, the crocodilian himself, launching forward with jaws agape. Within just a few seconds, Sobeks massive jaws clamped one of the adults within the teeth, killing it instantly and giving the big guy his deserved meal. Shifting direction and heading towards open sea to consume his kill, he is eager to tear into the fatty richness, doing so with messy fashion.
With a now full belly, Sobek was ready to return into hiding, perhaps as to get a good soak of the sun today, on its rare sunny days. As he propelled himself forward from A to B, another blast of memories struck his mind, causing him to lose rhythm and splash around as he tried to regain a footing. He saw the concrete jungle once again, more in focus this time. He could hear screams, screams of various pitches and distances, all crying out for something, but what? Sobeks eyes darted all over the place and his breathing became heavy and rampant. Why was he in distress of this mental image? what could it possibly relate to him for?. Sobek continued to think deep about what it all meant, but to no avail. As the thoughts continued, the sounds of gunfire and heavy artillery could be heard, going off in a frenzy. The sound of them cause Sobek to jump as if in preparation for them. How did his body instinctively know to defend itself from these sounds?. Could it have been pain?- then suddenly he remembered. Like a nightmare reborn, it all came to him within that second. He caused all that destruction. He could see the guns pointed at him, the missiles launched and exploding upon impact with his body. He was furious, not in control, and he caused unprecedented chaos because of it. His mind tried to cope with doing it by simply forgetting, until now, when the ghost of the past came back to haunt him of it.
The weight of this memory knocked Sobek on his side, struggling to grasp for air despite not drowning. He clawed his way onto the shore, getting down on one knee and breathing rapidly. The Distress of this thought, what he did was causing a panic attack. He did not mean to harm anybody, it was not his motive, but the beast within took control and fought back. These tiny beings hurt him. They created him when he didnt want to be created. They tortured him when all he needed was guidance. They taught him to kill and nothing more. They created the monster and thus, Sobek became that monster. The sheer anger that was built up over the years of this constant struggle finally came out in full force, and wreaked destruction on a scale like never before because of it. If crocodiles could shed tears, this is when Sobek would shed his, but he could not. Are they the monsters? they have to be for what they have done. He must take revenge on them to-no, he will not be their monster. Innocent people perished because of his rage, and it will not happen again. Despite all this inner conflict, Sobeks mind slowed down and began hearing the sounds of the wild once more. Frogs croaking, birds chirping, bugs singing. It made him realize something. Although there was violence everywhere, nature continues to blossom evermore. Sobek took a slow look around, seeing the green sea ahead, and the green lush jungle behind him. Night and day continue to cycle. The wildlife lives on, only killing to survive. If nature could continue to remain beautiful despite carnage, then so could he.
Sobek reared up to his full height, towering over the jungle around his body, letting out a powerful roar to the skies, once again sending birds into flight. He pounded his chest several times with a clenched fist and regained composure with himself, for he has now realized his purpose. The weight of his past will not drag the possibilities of his future down any further. Whatever those beings did to him, he will not let that damper what he was truly born to become. Sobek will protect the land he has grown up in, with tooth and claw. The land gives him peace of mind, and he in return will give it peace of life. The jaws of the jungle then gets down on all fours, marching into the water and gently sinking below the surface, the sound of all the animals only continuing as the gentle ripples of water decease.
