Description Don't worry - I don't know what I'm doing either.

Oh how I struggle with clouds.

I'm studying a master Kazuo Oga - the amazing artist who has painted the backgrounds for Hayao Miyazaki's movies. He paint the most amazing clouds! I'm not happy with how my clouds look in the top study... He used grey and just makes it work - I used grey but it didn't work for me  I added some more blue to the dark blueish grey and it did however make it better.

After I did the first study I thought I probably should practise doing some more clouds. I had a bit more influence on the colors in the four small studies.

I really love clouds and it frustrates me that I'm struggling so much with them - but I'll just keep on trying!

Materials:
- Watercolor
- Gouache

Getting to Know ColorsHello there - whoever might stumble across my profile!
I want to get to know colors better. I love colors! But I have to face it - I probably get a little too excited when I use them
Lately I've tried to either: use colors for the background and then black and white for my animals - or use black and white for the background and colors for my animals. It works better than overwhelming everything with too many colors - but I still feel like I'm not quite there with my color combinations.
That's why I've decided to try and really focus on the colors. First I'll start small. I heard somewhere someone say that beginners often choose too many colors too quickly and then they get overwhelmed. I think that's been my problem. So now I'm going to focus on only one color at the time. I'll try to really get to know the individual color. How I can blend them into different shades without just using black or wh

Lovely job.. love the rain and the one just beside it with the clouds and stars - wonderful mixes

HAve you watched some youtube videos on painting (with gouache) doing clouds? Has it helped?! KEep practicing. I think it looks great. My clouds probably look nothing like yours (but worse lol)

Those are my favorite ones too!

No I haven't actually! I usually watch art videos on youtube due to artist I've found here or on instagram but never really based on the media. I should really do that!

Sometimes watching the videos is counter intuitive because you stuck in awe lol but I find it helps me understand the media better and the techniques and ways in which people do things - youtube is like full of things even like specific things like "how to paint fur", "techniques using ---" and tips etc.. I think you'll find there's probably more on there for Watercolour than Gouache but I believe you can use a good amount of the watercolour tips with your gouache paint... even if it's just the basis of what they do.

There's also mixed media with gouache and watercolour which is something you do anyway?

That's probably very true!

Yeah I do use watercolor and gouache - but usually watercolor for the background and gouache for my main focus

Which is very cool.

Gouache can be mixed with water and used quite  abit like watercolour though aye?

Yes! You actually can't even really paint with it if you don't add just a little bit of water. I add a little water to make it workable but not a crazy lot because I want it to be opaque

It's a medium I had considered along side watercolour when I was making my choice

Seems a lovely medium though, I like the versatility.
