The final step, rendering, is the suggestion of all the hard work that goes into construction. It is the clown on the high-wire making the most difficult things look so simple. Yet, one false step and it's good bye, clown! Because "'simple doesn't mean easy."

That's quoting Joe Kubert, who, among others, I've been studying in connection with soft and hard tissue representation on faces. Joe knew the secret of gestalt, of how to suggest more than the sum of the parts.

If done properly, every line and spot in the final rendering is at once a visual cue, an explanation and a justification of the interaction of essentially invisible force and hidden structure that cannot be perceived by the eye, but only apprehended in imagination by the power of suggestion.
