Description Hello! Here is my first piece for the new year.
This is an illustration of a Pulsar named 4U 0142+61 (cute name isn't it )
I was working on this for quite long, and still its not perfect...I mean, I like it a lot, but I had a different picture in my mind
Anyway, I hope you like it.
I could write pages about how I did this But mostly I used textured brushes to paint and filters, filters, filters like Polar Coordinates, Twirl, Pinch, Blur...and such, plus I worked on many, many layers so I could edit perspective and the blend mode of each.

Done in Photoshop CS4 in approx 15-20 hours.
Layers: 137
Ohh, and full view is a must! the details are tasty 4200x2800, 300DPI.

Update: Reduced the size of the planet to 30%.

Comments and Critiques are most welcome

And some info about my seducer:
--------------------------

Pulsars are a class of supernova remnants, called neutron stars, which are incredibly dense. They have masses about 1.4 times that of the sun squeezed into bodies only 10 miles wide. The pulsar named 4U 0142+61, is 13,000 light-years away in the constellation Cassiopeia. It was once a large, bright star with a mass between 10 and 20 times that of our sun. The star probably survived for about 10 million years, until it collapsed under its own weight about 100,000 years ago and blasted apart in a supernova explosion.

Hi esk6a !

I'm a french musician, and with my duo, we're thinking about making a CD. We play some kind of traditional music, and it is aimed to a small audience (1000 CDs at all). We liked the idea of a pulsar as front cover. So I googled it and get to your picture which seduced me !

I'm quite aware of licence issues and what it means : all of my musical compositions are deposed under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 ... Does it bother you if we use it for such a purpose ? Of course we would give you credit in the way you like !

Best

this is pretty cool. i was wondering if i could use this for a stepmania pack i'm working on, the only things i would do to the picture is change the size to 640x480 for the background and 418x164 for the banner and add the title of the song and the artist.

if you'd like, i can put a link to your deviantart in the credits

Isn't the rings supposed to be way smaller than the beams that come from the poles

Hello,

I'm hoping to gain permission to use this image with some modifications in a mod for the game FTL. It's quite striking, and we'd love to be able to use it. Thanks.

Weird . I thought Pulsars are so small that they might be in the size of Earth . Did I get it wrong ?

SolarArchitect In reply to Yami-D-Sparx [2012-12-13 10:33:01 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, you are right. This image is not correct realistically, lets just say that I wanted a more artistic approach.

This is pretty cool, it certainly gives the effect of it spinning around really fast. It's amazing something so big can rotate once every second like they usually do I'm surprised that planet hasn't be annihilated

The plnet turn around the pulsar but she form after the supernovae with the stardust and the ray of the pulsar excite the nebula who can awake planets (sorry i'm french)

Thank you!

I know the planet is not correct realistically, I added it there because its a nice touch. But hmm...maybe be a few asteroids in the foreground would looked better.

this is great! I was in physics the other day and we watched a video on pulsars, quasars, magnetars, and DRAGNs, and we were all making jokes about how they ALL sounded like pokemon, especially magnetar. So i'm working on drawing them all as pokemon, and this will really help with my idea of a pulsar!
