Description Guess how long I was working on this piece? Since January... haha... of course, I took breaks. Lots of breaks. As you could probably guess, I don't usually take 7 months on a single painting  But this one has a bit of story behind it!

I don't know what it was about this painting, in fact, it's sketch was nothing special, just a quick 3 minute gesture drawing on computer paper, the type of scribbling I'd been doing to vent that little did I know, was wrapping me back around to making art again. It's hard to tell this on the Internet because you can only see what I choose to post, but between 2015-17 I was really in a tangle art-wise. I was still making work, but with a lot of abandon. I basically got a lot of great ideas but no follow-through. I didn't realize until I was coming out of it, how much I let school and outside influences infest my art practice. School and applying for colleges made me take art WAY too seriously. I guess it was worth it for that interval of time because I earned a scholarship that's really, really helped me financially and scholastically, and I did "perfect" at AP Art. (lol I actually cried and stressed out so much in that class but I had a good teacher and it was a good portfolio building experience). But now that I don't have to go and """"impress"""" people with my art (read: fish for compliments because people need me to prove I can be valid or professional or such), it's more destructive than good, allowing all this perfectionism and stress...

This was one of the first pieces since A Little Rainy (one of my favs cause it was like the only good one from my art block period) that got fully colored and in my opinion is my best digital animal art piece right now. It has more depth and better depiction of wildlife and the anatomy is better. I did this one before the Breezepelt one but waited to post this so I could tweak it more. Even with rounds of edits, there's still some of that "rough painting" look b/c my art isn't totally sharp and nifty as I remember it... but I'm picking up where 2014 left me off. But the best part? I love art again  I don't know why this was the painting that I just got back with the program for, but it was, so it's really special to me right now. I feel weird making personal/hobby art and upcoming fanart after so long making art for teachers, professors, and scholarship granters! But I remind myself that my silly Lion King fanart and Pokemon comics and Warriors animations back in like 2008 was why I got into art to begin with, and I'm sick of making art to gain validation (part my own doing, part influence of school and such i.e. being graded, mandatory competitions), and I just want to retrace my hobbyist and fanartist roots. I think art can be really rewarding even just as a personal project or hobby! I love the feeling of working out a painting and seeing a brand new image come to life, and knowing I can pick up that painting again at anytime to either repaint it or use it as part of an animation!

Hello! I'm from ProjectComment .

I really like the detail in this illustration! It's amazing!

While I really enjoy looking at this detailed illustration, I also feel like you added a little too much detail in some places like the foreground. Making the foreground less detailed would calm down the picture a bit and draw the attention to the animal rather than the plants. Because the animal is in the middle of the illustration, it seems a bit boring. In my opinion the composition would look more interesting if you cut the left part of the illustration. I tried covering part of the left side of the picture with a piece of paper and think that it flows better when the animal is not in the centre, but to the left and there aren't this many unnecessary plants in the foreground. This way the animal comes out better and you can see the details and structure of its fur better ^^

Another way to make the animal stand out more is to make the edges of the illustration darker...This usually adds a really nice effect ^^ You could also change the animal's color to be  a more reddish tone, but I think the green looks pretty nice.
I especially like that you also added some green to the animal's fur ^^ It looks very interesting and also gives the picture an interesting vibe...
From a distance the green is pretty dominant, but I really like how the background is darker and more blue in comparison to the foreground. This helps separating the background and adds a nice, magical effect. Maybe having the plants in the foreground in a similar blueish color would help calming down the illustration...?

Your work clearly shows that you know what you're doing and have a good understanding of color theory, animal anatomy and plants and know how to render different structures. Keep it up!

Thank you very much! Those are some really great pointers I'll be sure to keep in mind! Compared to the other artworks in my gallery, which pieces was this one stronger or weaker than? I don't know if it's just me but I feel like my style has been jumping around between different pieces

Hey there, I'm from the ProjectComment

I love the colors on this, and the blend of the clouded leopard. How it blends into the background and fits in with it's environment, very natural. The angles of the body are a nice static yet dynamic feeling to them. The biggest downside I see is that nothing is sharp, there is no 'focus'. Now that's not necessarily a bad thing if that was the intention. It's just with a few items having edges (the black) while most of it doesn't, it feels...diluted?
Keep at this, this is a beautiful piece and I see a lot more lovely pieces coming from you in future!

Hi i'm from ProjectComment ,

Wow this took 7 months? It really shows! Can I say that I adore cats? like they are so cute and how you displayed this furry friend is just gorgeous, what type of wildcat is it? I may like cats but I don't know many of their species as far as wildcats are, ok maybe some of the basic ones but not the suborders.

anyways onto the pic, you can see the cat right off the bat, that is the most eye catching thing in this pic, the overall centerpiece. I can't really see the signature too well. I woulda went with black so you can see it better but that's just me. You really went into great detail with the jungle or rainforest foliage, as most exotic foliage is quite fascinating.

However that one foot on the cat looks a bit too long and needs a little bit more black strokes instead of orange as I can hardly define it as a foot at first glance, other than that everything else looks fine to me, this deserves more favs!

That is all I have to say.

This is a sunda clouded leopard, very dark, short-furred, and beautiful variants of clouded leopards and there are lots of nice photographs of them on Google c:

I am really glad you like the piece! Thank you for your comment and the support means a lot! I hope you will poke around my gallery as well as many of my artworks run similar in theme and design. Thanks again and have a lovely week! ^w^

Thank you so much, I am glad you enjoy the detail!! And you'd be surprised how painting techniques differ from drawing techniques in a way that can let you paint more detail than is really there. When you paint, unlike drawing, you don't have to put in the lines and shapes for every detail. You can use a quick brush stroke or a color combination to trick the eye into seeing more than is there. If you enjoy detailed artworks more than less detailed works, I'd highly recommend taking a painting class (online or in person) and learning how different it is from drawing!

gosh I LOVE this style of painting it's so pretty and really matches jungle type settings thats for sure~
It's very nicely done and I can tell what everything is and what it's doing, and the longer you look at it the more you see. Example being I didn't see that snake until I looked twice which is fun because it makes me want to keep looking

Also looking at this one leaf above the head of the cat like the one covering the ear, well the lighting and colours put into it makes it look like there is a person wearing glasses
 (it's so small haha)

Amazing painting though very well done! Keep it up, even if it take like half a year to a year~

Aww thank youuu!! Your compliment means a lot to me and feels really on point with what I am going for! I don't see the person wearing glasses, though! That is really cool and kind of trippy how you can see something in my art that I don't - that's something fun about painting with crazier strokes, you get a lot of "phantom images" which can make the art more complex. And I will definitely be keeping up the grind! I'm getting out of my rough patch... and really starting to get a feel for what and who I am through my art. Thank you for saying that. I will definitely make a sincere effort to be better or at least to keep going.

i dont remember all the titles but i basically clicked through a chunk of your amazing artwork and chose mostly paintings that seemed complete to me, little unfulfilled space and a lot of objects so the eye gets caught in all the details and how the single parts of the composition decorate the main focus. you really do great art in my opinion all though i would not give god any credit, all the achievement of your own mind and talent.

Thank you for your feedback! It is really helpful to know what my viewers are looking for. I agree completely about getting the eye caught up with the details to elaborate on the main composition - I will work to continue to create that effect of detail. Thank you very much for your support of my work, it means a lot!!

Yeah, I don't know if I would feel too happy to find the vines around me were teeming with vipers and snakes, either! XD Thank you for your comment! I am glad you see a link between color and storytelling in my work because that is exactly what I am going to be aiming for as an animator! I've already started working on this animated music video thing and one way it is different from painting so far is that instead of choosing color semi-randomly or based off of aesthetics alone, I've been trying to remind myself to correlate the colors to the emotions, ex. use a red background for a violent scene or an orange bg for a joyful scene or a blue bg for a calm scene.
