The first My Little Pony is still first in my heart, my mind and my line of inspirational colourful horses.
Might remake this a bit someday.
I feel like I need people to get this. Am I alone?
You are looking at this stamp "out of context"!
The idea is to use this on pictures and customs of/on first generation ponies and also "oc's" inspired by the first generation. Feel free to do the same - if you know the difference!

I don't. Which is why I've been trying my harded not to beg my dad to spend over $100 dollars on Mimic, Rapunzel, the 7 Tales ponies, and fanmade plushies of the Flim Flam Brothers from FiM on eBay.... it's difficult. XD

All those lovely ponies, I wish they where not so expensive.
Imagine they where cheaper, adding an extra room on top of the house should have lesser cost too - to support a place to keep all the ponies XD

I love the first generation too (obviously XD), after all they are connected to many happy childhood memories
Yeah, I like most of the toys but in comparison there still ain't nothing like G1
The fandom seems to be my problem. G1 lovers (and all gen likers) can take a dis of some episodes, while G4 seem to take it to their heart to defend every inch and minute of it

I think the G3 turned the down going trend for the ponies, considering how long they where sold in the stores (at least around where I live). G2 didn't get many "updates" so I guess they didn't sell well at all. G4 seems to be going up and down. Sometimes they are sold out and sometimes the same seem to linger on the shelfs for months (I like looking in toy stores XD). I'm just babbling, sorry XD

Hm, i dunno, i got my first pony when I was three, so that's about ten years of g3, and I guess a bunch of people really didn't like G2... O gawd, I used to be a complete FANATIC, and all this FIM business is bringing it back after a couple of years.

the current one is ok, it is a show for kids after all... I just don't like the fandom that came with some of the characters (even background characters)... it's gone overboard!

I needed it to add to some of my pictures, it drained so much energy to constantly tell the FiM-only lovers that there is nothing wrong with my ponies, they are G1 inspired.
In my opinion it's a matter of "same name, different thing". I'm not saying none of them aren't my little pony, I'm trying to point out that they are different kinds of my little pony.

I think it's a common misconception, whenever someone mentions G1 and G4 in the same sentence and prefers one of them over the other (never mentioning dislike) people take it as some kind of "war declaration" when it's probably more of a "love declaration"

I respect G1 but I owe a lot to G4 for literally making my life better.
It helped trough High School when I was going through some depression.

People like what they like for their personal reasons, this expresses my personal view so don't take offence in anyone else then me preferring what I like because I also have my own personal reasons

I do admit Lauren Faust did an awesome job on G4 but it kinda lacks adventure, excitement, and unpredictable plots which G1 had despite she actually took most of the ideas from G1. I just hope she makes the series more exciting.
The fans kinda turn me away from G4 especially the ones who complain about that it's horrible when they're the one's who have a HORRIBLE taste.
G4 was really sugarcoated ALOT MORE than G1. They did add scary themes like the G1 pilot where Tirac (sp?) threatened to behead spike and the first movie with the smooze that tried to drown the ponies and the other creatures in dream valley.
Some people say that the smooze is a silly villian when it can drown people and thicken making it impossible to survive the impact. (It's a thick flood! Of coarse it could kill!)

G4 might be more sugar coated than G1 but is a lot less sugar coated than Tales and G3. And the character do have more personality in my opinion.
G4 is not afraid to throw a reference or adult joke either. Lauren did try to make it more adventure focus and darker but Hasbro didn't let her.

I know G4 is less sugarcoated than G3 and I'm a fan of the show. (That's one of the reasons why I like it) Unfortunately when I was on Youtube and I commented on some of the G1 videos some fans replied telling me that the show was awful and you should kill and other useless laments. At the end of the end of thier comments they always tell me to watch G4 when I've watched most of the episodes and I admit it had great things which I really liked about it. I don't mind if they comment on the video but replying and yelling at me because I love the show wasn't ok.
In essence I'm just saying that the fans shouldn't start offending fans of the old show. If this show didn't exist we won't have G4.
Yeah I noticed the Adult jokes. Almost all cartoons have adult jokes pending on the censorships. (I agree on some censorships but only the ones that are VERY offending)

I respect G1. It had some awesome villains and any flaw it had can be excuse because it was the 80s. I even watched a handful of episodes of Tales back when I was little. I even kinda respect G3... a little just because it brought us Pinkie Pie and to an extent Rainbow Dash. G3.5 on the other hand..... yeah lets not ever talk about that one. G4 fans should really give older fans a break. But hey is Youtube, what did you expect there XD . But I have seen a few stuck up G1 fans
I know that other cartoons do adult jokes but when was the last time a girl show did it? XD
MLP has right now 6 alcohol reference, 4 sexual innuendos, 1 ship tease, 2 penis jokes/reference. And that's from the top of my head and not counting all the adult movies they reference.

I also respect the new generation lovers but only the ones that respect the old lovers. If it didn't exist Lauren Faust wouldn't have made the new generation that everyone loves. Seriously whenever I go to a G1 MLP there has to be a negative comment the was written incorrectly and with CAPS!!
Old show will still be the best. They never used computers and they made beautiful animations like Disney did but Disney is an animation studio and Hasbro is a toy company so they had an excuse why the animation wasn't very good. Plus like I said they never used computers to make cartoons so they needed a long time to make one cartoon unlike today's animations that are considered easy on professionals.
I do admire that Lauren brought back the series but some of the fans need to grow up and accept that G1 came before and it was an inspiration to the creator of the new one.
Sailor Moon and Cardcaptor Sakura had adult features and possibly jokes. Then again in Japan, Korea and the Far East countries it's considered normal to show adult jokes and curse words in children shows.

G4 still one of the better animated flash cartoons out there. And the team behind it worked in a lot of my favorite cartoons. So that's another reason to like it.
I mean american girl shows. In japan stuff like that is really common. Sailor Moon had girls in mini skirt and lesbians. Sakura Cardcaptor had a kid with a "not-subtle" gay crush.

Yeah I admit that it is one of the best flash animated shows (alongside skunk fu).
I know the team worked a great job on it but I just don't want them to dumb it down like some shows have.
Ok. I've got none. I don't really care about what country made the cartoon as long as the cartoon had a nice plot and understandable themes.

Personally, I usually fall back on saying G4 has some charm but they lack the "it", that special magical randomness that (most of) the first ones had^^
It's a bit like art, a piece of art can look absolutely stunning when it comes to technique but no matter how much you try to like what you see it lack something, that little something, the "it".

G1 and G4 also seem to live in completely different universes, with different natural laws and the ponies who live there have a totally different set of mentality.

You're right. The show was good but it needed more so it could be exciting to watch.
Despite the Animation being good the series needs a good plot for a cartoon to be good. Animation is of secondry importance. They should work first on the plot and improvise it then make a character suitable for the plot then work on the animation because if the animation was first and the plot was second, people might dislike the show and the animator's work is all for nothing.
Lauren Faust did take most of the G4 characters personality and design from G1. The most obvious is Rainbow Dash. She's similar to Firefly. And also Twilight who's name is similar to Twilight from G1 pilot. I really like that she combined almost all of the previous generations but I wish she added alot of adventure in it. That's what got me into G1.
I did notice that Lauren did add somethings that happened in G1 but changed some of it like the Icy wind Horses that shrouded the ponies in snow and ice. In G1 it was a Penguin King who turned Ponyland into a Icy heck so that penguins could live in it. Also the Fashion Show in G4 happend in G1 where ponies were wearing costumes and parading like in a fashion show. Which kinda proves that Lauren was inspired mostly from the first generation.

It is strange somehow, how people find it hard to just "accept and let go" (when it comes to favoring a toy and other less important things).
I'm not sure what the "it" is in this case (or more precisely, in my case), I don't think I can say "it's because I'm not a kid anymore" since so many grown ups like it. Could be an interesting thing to explore among a group of people, "what makes the difference?"
Similarities yes, but not "equals" as in "this = this" (I lack the English to explain my thoughts further). Their intentions where good, I don't doubt that.
Especially their intentions to make it mainstream so they collect more money this time around XD (what company does not work for money?^^).

G1 MLP is in the 80s and I'm a 90s kid. I mostly watched shows before my generation like old Disney and mostly 70s and 80s cartoons but a sum amount of 90s cartoons. I guess that's why I appreciate old cartoons.

There are some companies who work for free or for cheap. Maybe because they're charitable or for spiritual reasons like non-profit organizations. They help mostly people in poor countries like Africa.

G1 för att den var så underbar och fick mig helt pony-tokig. XD Har fortfarande kvar mina pony leksaker och nu leker min systerdotter med dem och gissa om hon älskar dem. ^^~
Den nya efter att jag vant mig vid stilen. Dem ser dock inte ut som ponyer om man frågar mig. :/ Men episoderna e roliga och som en anna deviant sa så har intresset väckt för my little pony så det ger ju pluspoäng.

I miss the first MLP's as well. Oh them happy times when the ponies looked awesome, the Finnish dub of the cartoon was done over a Swedish one so that you heard the Swedish dub on the background, and when the seaponies looked terrifying if you stopped the film just the right moment... <3
