Description
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows / Chapter 33 "The PrinceΒ΄s Tale" / by J.K.Rowling... "What request could a Death Eater make of me?"
"The - the prophecy ... the prediction ... Trelawney ..."
"Ah yes," said Dumbledore [...]
"The prophecy did not refer to a woman," said Dumbledore. "It spoke of a boy born at the end of July -"
"You know what I mean! He thinks it means her son, he is going to hunt her down - kill them all -"
"If she means that much to you," said Dumbledore, "surely Lord Voldemort will spare her? Could you not ask for mercy for the mother, in exchange for the son?"
"I have - I have asked him-"
"You disgust me," said Dumbledore, and Harry had never heard so much contempt in his voice. [...]
"Hide them all, then," he croaked. "Keep her - them - safe. Please."
"And what will you give me in return, Severus?"
"In - in return?" Snape gaped at Dumbledore, and Harry expected him to protest, but after a long moment he said, "Anything." ...

This is gorgeous. ;A;
The cosshatch techinque for the shading is really appealing. ((:

thanks very much!
I've been using the crosshatch technique ever since I studied architecture, where the assistants and professor told us that it is a sacrilege to smear ... I could handle crosshatching, so I think it just became my most favourite way of shading because I always did it like that ...

This drawing is... perfect!
Haven't seen such a nice line for a long time now!
It seems to "take a picture" of all the deepness of the scene... I loved it!

Wow, so pretty :3 I love it when people don't draw Albus as the actor from the movies! I love Severus' hands pleading with him too...

So awesome - I love the contrast of Dumbledore's whiteness with Snape's dark clothes and hair.
The trees and background are so dramatic!

This is a great drawing - Snape just breaks your heart... Dumbledore's body language fits him perfectly in this. Great job.

One of the best treatments I've seen of this. The whole scene is wonderful, almost a tapestry of light and dark. Dumbledore towering over wretched Snape, the trees almost reaching out to ensnare him . . . Wow, just superb. I love the attention you pay to little details like D's cape, too

somelatevisitor In reply to joeyv7 [2007-12-31 09:10:10 +0000 UTC]
thanks for the compliments ... at first I intended to draw only the centre of the picture and let the lines fade from centre to the edge of the paper (is it called "edge"? I hope you know what I mean), but then I wanted it to be all dark and then I went on and on until every squaremillimetre of the sheet of paper was covered ... so I indeed had to pay some attention to the details ...

It really worked out well - also meant to say Snape's hair is excellent. It echoes the reaching trees nicely, which I only noticed because I've been up 24 hrs & and get completely obscure about things when I do that XD

I tried to draw the scene exactly as it was described, so I reread it for reference. I also reread the German version of that scene - because it evokes slightly different pictures in my mind's eye when I read the same story in a different language. Both versions described Snape's hair as heavily windswept (in other words, both) - so that's what I had to draw ...
