Description
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows / Chapter 33 "The PrinceΒ΄s Tale" / by J.K.Rowling... "What request could a Death Eater make of me?"
"The - the prophecy ... the prediction ... Trelawney ..."
"Ah yes," said Dumbledore [...]
"The prophecy did not refer to a woman," said Dumbledore. "It spoke of a boy born at the end of July -"
"You know what I mean! He thinks it means her son, he is going to hunt her down - kill them all -"
"If she means that much to you," said Dumbledore, "surely Lord Voldemort will spare her? Could you not ask for mercy for the mother, in exchange for the son?"
"I have - I have asked him-"
"You disgust me," said Dumbledore, and Harry had never heard so much contempt in his voice. [...]
"Hide them all, then," he croaked. "Keep her - them - safe. Please."
"And what will you give me in return, Severus?"
"In - in return?" Snape gaped at Dumbledore, and Harry expected him to protest, but after a long moment he said, "Anything." ...

I think that out of all the artists that have done this scene, (and there has been A LOT) this picture sums it up for me. The background, wind, robes, shading, everything. It's just perfect.

There's a really unique mood to this piece. There's a lot of emotion, but I also feel like its like those illustrations you see on tapestries and everything. The emotions and setting in this piece tell a very intricate story, its really different from the fanart I've been seeing lately and I love it!

thanks so much! I've always been liking Snape, I knew from the beginning that his character would turn out to be something special (or I at least kept my fingers crossed that JKR would make him something special) ...

if there was ever an illustrated set of HP books, this is the quality and style I'd want to see in them.
I'd love to see this drawing in DH

The boots make him seem more like an elf, though I'm reading a story in which Gandalf was supposedly based off of Dumbledore...which I can believe.
Wonderful pic...

Dumbledore looks almost benign here...
I love the flowing lines on your drawings, and the way they end very thin and sharp, like Dumbledore's cape and hair and boots etc. Snape's face is great!

somelatevisitor In reply to TomScribble [2008-02-12 08:07:06 +0000 UTC]
... I think that's somehow part of my style of drawing, and it derives from the simple fact that I once had studied architecture, and amongst architects swirly lines and circles and everything apart from straight lines are being frowned upon ... I developed this style as a kind of defiant contrasting position to tha architects' narrowmindedness (you may imagine that I don't work in this business...
)
