When the alien hoard came, the Sedi Federation was ready….or so they thought. The hoard had a dreadnaught, death in the form of a ship, nothing in the Federation could stop it. System after system fell to the hoard, when an unusual trend was noticed. A single system. A system well within the path of the hoard, but seemingly avoided. What could the hoard be afraid of? The Federation fleet certainly couldn’t stop them. It was discovered the system was host to a specific orbital science center, with a specific device, a cannon that could propel particles to near light speed. A scientific instrument, really, but if you shot a ship with it? Well let’s just say the Sedi were desperate.

In less than an hour a crack team of engineers were assembled and the cannon was pried from the orbital station. Engines salvaged from what few battleships the Sedi had left, and weapons acquired from what little they still had. When thousands are dying every second the hoard persists, safety standards tend to be thrown out the window, almost every hastily assembled platform was attached with “good enough” as the guiding principle. In only one week, the ship was complete, if you can call it a ship. It didn’t have any real armor to speak of and the weapons were laughable at best. What was important was the main cannon. The ship didn’t need to survive, it just needed to land a single, well placed shot.

The vessel would end up being named “Thor’s Hammer” since it would be the metaphorical hammer to strike down the ever encroaching hoard. It would be what would save the Sedi Federation from extermination. It had to.
