Infrared+Visible - At the Chinese Garden of Friendship, Darling Harbour, Sydney
F/1.2, ISO100, 85mm, 1/5000
Color-balanced with virgin teflon
Samyang 85mm f/1.2
Shot with a Full-Spectrum-Converted Canon 5Dmk2
The silicon that a cameras sensor is made of is naturally sensitive to a great deal of UV and IR light that the human eye cannot see. However, cameras are designed to filter out UV and IR before they get to the sensor. My camera has been modified to remove these filters, letting it see infrared and ultraviolet.
Note: since my camera still has its Bayer array, it's spectral sensitivity is somewhat reduced compared with the graph above.
My modified camera is able to capture infrared, visible, and ultraviolet light. Since the lens I used has a coating that strongly filters out ultraviolet light, this photo ends up being infrared + visible light only.
Note: I uploaded this at full resolution (21.1 MP, 5616x3744) in case you'd like to download it as a wallpaper

does this conversion affect sharpness, or is that an intended effect?
nevermind I see you've already answered that.

The soft focus gives it an other-worldly quality!

Many thanks! The soft focus is a combination of the infrared chromatic aberration of the full spectrum conversion and the low resolution of the lens at f/1.2

Fascinating! I had never heard of full spectrum camera conversion before. Not even in any of the college photography courses I took! haha
Did you have your Mark II's "IR blocking filter" replaced with a clear filter, or did the camera come that way already?

I initially converted a cheaper camera to full spectrum, and liked the results but was frustrated by the process. When I upgraded to a full-spectrum 5Dmk2 I opted to go for a pre-converted one!

Awesome! I don't have much mechanical skill, so I'll keep an eye out for pre-converted cameras when I'm in the market for a new one.
