Description
The weapon depicted is fictional and represents alternate history timeline---------------------------------------
FsR-2, or Fusil de la Revolucion 2-nd model was developed on Cuba soon after 1959 Communist revolution. The second model submitted to trials, designed by gifted local railway engineer Antonio M. Sanchez the FsR-2 is gas-operated air cooled automatic rifle, chambered in 7,62x39mm (weapon is fed from standard 30-rounds detachable magazines), with weight of approximately 3,5 kg, and effective range up to approximately 300 meters.
Weapon is designed with simplicity in production and operation in mind, with most parts could be produced via non-dedicated factories or even smaller workshops.
Adopted for service by Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces in 1961 as principal infantryman's rifle. Rather soon, via clandestine means, samples were aquired by United States' DIA (Defense Intelligence Agency) and studied. Taking note of ingenious construction, US Army's Ordnance Board commissioned making a copy - with weapon's simple construction that was not a very difficult task and since weapon was not patented at all, nobody could take some action if that copy would be adopted for US Army's service as M15A assault carbine (abeit chambered in .223 light rifle rounds) and put into production on Springfield weapons plant. Ordnance board actually introduced some improvements, instrumental in achieving good field-grade reliability, such as sand cuts on bolt carrier and reinforced extraction mechanism.
Ruling Cuban Communist Party actually responded to the occasion with some humour as to "the imperialists acknowledge working class ingenuity" and "returned the favor" in kind, by introducing US Ordnance Board's modifications into Cuban-produced rifles.
Simple and efficient construction soon made copies of rifle appear in production in many countries around the world - both NATO, Warsaw Pact and Non-Aligned countries.
