Description
The colors say spring; the light says fallThese flowers don't bloom until September or so. One of the (unbelievably many) benefits of keeping native plants is that you always have something in bloom. Right about the time the butterfly weed and pretty white flowers begin to die, the yellow, purple, and magenta flowers start popping up!
Not only does this keep color in the garden, but it also keeps the butterflies, dragonflies, damselflies, bumblebees, sphinx moths, and a horde of other spiffy insects right outside my back door.
The butterfly, by the by, is some sort of skipper. BugGuide tells me it's of the Hylephila genus, possibly a fiery skipper. Can anyone confirm this?

Sorry, I can't tell you for sure whether it's a fiery skipper, but you're right, it appears as one.
But I'm fascinated by this picture! It's rare to see a butterfly 'eat', because as soon as something moves they take off.
You have amazing skills.

Yup, yup, I'm a ninja!
Heheh, my backyard skippers just aren't very skittish for some reason. I figure it's because the weather's getting cold and it's now "crunch time" for the necter-drinking insects
