Description All the pieces together. I may add a ship at some point. It turned out okay as an experiment and illustrates the fortress layout well enough ,but I could probably have created a more dynamic composition using conventional methods and with much less effort.
Some of the pieces don't quite work and I probably should have made more turrets ( showing different scale and gun rotation).

Just a couple of things- the first one is that the low contrast between colors of the buildings results in a general confusion, it doesn't let you see the various elements clearly. Perhaps just a thicker or darker border line could make this right.
And then, at least to me, the elemts seem just glued on the background without actually being part of it. But the buildings theirselves are still awesome, except for the borderline thing.

Thanks Yeah-that's often the problem with this style of production. Although each element (being created on its own large sheet of paper) has a high level of detail, making sure all the elements fit together properly can be a problem-as can line thickness when the elements are scaled down.

Hmm real cool I got to admit that and it looks like it could handle whatever an enemy throws at it, while a challenge I can see a number of ways through all that, one of the more obvious would be to launch an attack by sea using submarines if those are available. Or to attack at night and send in an infiltration team to demolish key locations inside the fortifications or to set off a chain reaction by detonating the ammunition stockpiles they no doubt have hidden deep inside the various locations around the forts. Pretty damn intimidating I admit, but I love a strategy challenge.

Cool There were lots of forts similar to this in Belgium and France at the start of WW2(nothing this crazy, but some pretty impressive stuff none the less). The Germans either went past them or attacked them with paratroops-using hand held demolition charges to blow the casemates and turrets appart. Forts are useful but I guess it's best not to pour too much of your resources into them-especially if there's a way the enemy can avoid attacking them.

Of course, if you know the attack's coming it's possible to throw up quicker defenses. This is how the Soviets beat the Blitzkrieg in the end (aside from lots and lots of stuff)-defense in depth-followed by counter attack. While conventional forts have great strengths in armour and firepower they can be kind of lacking when it comes to mobility.

I'd go with the infiltration team if I were you. The harbour's gotta have anti submarine nets and the like

Heh true my idea of an infiltration team is have a glider towed behind an aircraft then when near enemy lines the glider is detached and would glide towards the fort in question rather silently. Once close enough the glider's riders would jump out and parachute down silently at night when there are less likely to be guards looking for such a thing. Of course the harbor since its protected by a net might not be bothered with since if someone has successfully infiltrated the larger fort, use that massive gun to blow the harbor to hell and cause some confusion and chaos to further conceal the infiltration team while they kill commanders and set off the ammo dumps inside the fortress.

Probably better than a frontal assault

Yeah I never go for a frontal assault unless I can cut off an enemy's supply lines and such and had enough to starve those guys into surrendering, well aside from air infiltration I realized that an infiltration team could sneak in using the trucks and pose as new recruits who are assigned to the fort then once they get the layout of the place they commence with their assassinations and demolitions.

Thanks The fortress was created in sections which lead to some of the lines becoming a bit too thin when the pieces were shrunk down. I doubt I'll do another piece like this ( at least not for a while).

No prob

and i have some ides for this comic
this is a comic right? or did you give up on that?

if the name of this land is: the grand imperiom of dune.
then mabye it could be ruled by a general that did something realy heroic in some war that they had a ??? time ago. and then they made him the leader or king?

and the enemy: how about they are like tree hugers? and have magic and stuff? and they dont wont the world 2 become machines? (like the grand imperiom wonts it 2 be)

and now they fight over resources and land?
and the tree huger could be cald: the earth forces? or the rebels of earth?
and while the tree hugers have magic things like rock monsters and walking trees? the grand imperiom have machines like tanks and walkers and stuff?

and a quistion: do you have some kind of site where i can read this comic? becuse i like the ide of steampunk war and ww1 weapons. so do you have a site where i can read it? or did you stop working on this comic?

Thanks for the cool ideas! I may use the designs for a comic one day but at the moment they exist just as designs. I've got some comic work in a similar style at comicspace.com -try searching 'goblin hero'

You can buy an art book with these designs from lulu or from amazon- [link] if you want to.I really only made the book as something to send out to try and get jobs , but after making it public on lulu they decided to put it on Amazon.
Thanks again for the ideas.

It's quite difficult to distinguish fortress details - maybe there could be more different colors and/or higher contrast. Otherwise - nice work

Thanks for the comment. I think you're right. A large part of the problem is that the fortress is composed of many higly detailed pieces. On a larger scale you'd be able to see things better, but shrunk down that small the line work almost dissapears. It was a fun experiment but I don't think I'd create such a complex component based image again.

Awesome, man!

I'd like to see an army try to get through that.

Thanks! Probably best just to go round. If absolutely vital I suppose para troopers could work (although casualties would be high).
