Description I'm continuing with my art journey. The lessons I have been getting from the place I am attending are a bit disappointing, but options are limited here. Still, for a first effort from a total novice, I'm reasonably happy with it. (until I see what someone with talent can do oh well, nothing good happens quickly).

Off to scraps when I get a chance.

Don't beat yourself up about it; art is a journey, as you said. What's good here is that you've got the proportions of the skull done well, and all that remains is to just use darker shades to build up greater contrast. Trust me, once you use an 8B for shadows, you'll never stop.

Oh yeah, I'm not complaining! Gotta start somewhere
Also, I was only allowed to use the 4B as part of the exercise. The model was a plastic fish-tank skull so it was wonky to begin with, so I'm reasonably happy all in all. No biggie but it'll be nice to come back to this in a few years time.

Only 4B? Interesting, I guess that's to help you understand the range of tones and textures you can create from one pencil.

Yeah, to force me to use technique rather than tools to achieve an effect.

It's a good way to learn. I remember doing things like that as well!
