My entry for *mechanicalkat 's Bolt design contest! If you don't know what a bolt is, you should go to her page and take a look, 'cause they're totally awesome. 8|

It took me a really long time to figure out what minerals/elements I wanted to reference, but I really like how this turned out! The one on the left issss... an azurite bolt in surrounding crystal matrix (reffed from this ), and the one on the left is proustite in a (pyrite? I'm really not sure what exactly it is but it looks metallic) matrix (reffed from here ). In addition to the red I used for the fur, proustite also comes in some really pretty shades of plum which I used for the legs and eyes.

Man, I haven't shaded anything in forever, I'm so out of practice! XDD;;; I'm not as happy with the azurite bolt's shading as I am with the proustite one, but that's probably because I shaded it first. 8|;; Also, the shading obscures a lot of the more subtle color variations I had going on with that, like a bit of dappling on the scales and some lighter/darker variations in the legs and fur. (There was some lighter orange on the tip of the muzzle/ears that I liked especially.) ...you know what, here's the unshaded version so you can see all that a bit better. [link]

Overall though, I really like how this turned out! :> Not bad for being so out of practice, and I love how their poses turned out. It's funny, because I thought that the azurite was going to be my favorite design-wise, but in terms of coloration I think I actually like the proustite one better. 8D I may have to develop their personalities more for certain purposes later on. >_>
