Description At last, I finished my Sailor Fuku tutorial! My Sailor Moon costumes get the most questions by far, and I've been meaning to put together this tutorial foreverrrrr to answer everyone's questions ~ I hope it helps out a few aspiring senshi cosplayers out there <3!

This is my first tutorial, but if it goes over well I might put together more so let me know if there's anything else you'd like to see from me!

Click download to view the complete tutorial in pdf form, or you can download it directly from my website .

I hope you enjoy, feel free to comment or message me with further questions!

Edit: I noticed the new PDF reader on DA is a little wonky ... I did update the fonts in the pdf so they look a little nicer than they did before, but this pdf looks best if you download it and read it in adobe reader/acrobat.

I'm sort of confused, is the chest armor meant to just be put on OVER the base fuku without being sewn to it? How does it stay in place that way?

Yeah that's right, it's a separate piece! I never had problems with mine moving around ~ just think of it as a tiny shirt. Or a crop top. xD;

I would have been totally lost making a Sailor Fuku without this! I altered your patterns ever so slightly to fit my own needs, but wow. Thanks so very much for making this into a tutorial. It's wonderful and greatly appreciated!

although I have barely any interest in cosplaying... this is amazing. Sailor Moon was my first anime, and I've seen many bad cosplays, but this - is really amazing. WOW. Congrats on the definitely well-deserved DD!!!!!

Congrats on the dd and for the tutorial thingy can it be nodified for curvyer people?

SparklePipsi In reply to XxGothic-Wolf [2013-04-22 23:28:31 +0000 UTC]

Yes, I'm sure it could be~! The green pepper pattern I use as a base comes in lots of sizes, and you can add more length to the skirt as well if more pleats are needed ~ most likely the measurements for the bows and collar could stay the same but you might want to add a little bit of fabric for the sleeve parts (maybe about 1/2" - 1" on all sides). I'd recommend buying some cheap practice fabric to use for mockups, just to make sure your modified measurements work well for you before you cut into the real stuff. I hope that helps <3!!

EbonNekoXIII [2013-03-15 00:49:40 +0000 UTC]

This will be immensely helpful for my upcoming Sailor Uranus crossplay! Fantastic job!

Quick question: Do the fabric measurements account for the possible height of the cosplayer (I'm 6'1"), or should I adjust for my tall frame?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SparklePipsi In reply to EbonNekoXIII [2013-03-19 23:40:42 +0000 UTC]

Hmm yeah, I would probably adjust them a little bit just in case, at least the length of the skirt will probably need to be modified! Maybe start with making the skirt 4" to 5" longer, you can cut the length shorter later if it ends up being too long. I'm guessing the measurements for the bows and the other little detailies would still be fine, though you could add an inch or two to everything if you wanted to play it safe ~ good luck with your cosplay!! <3

GammaInkkk In reply to ??? [2013-03-01 06:36:49 +0000 UTC]

and also how did you line the skirt? i don't get that bit?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SparklePipsi In reply to GammaInkkk [2013-03-04 21:31:59 +0000 UTC]

To line the skirt you basically just sew an identical shaped piece of fabric to the main piece ~ I sewed the two pieces together along the bottom edge and turned that right-side out so no hemming was necessary. I prefer lining over hemming in most cases, but if you'd rather do a rolled-over hem for your skirt I'd just add a little bit of extra to the bottom to make sure it doesn't get to short :3

GammaInkkk In reply to ??? [2013-03-01 06:36:28 +0000 UTC]

how much should the hem on the skirt be? should we add it on the 12" or hem from the 12"?

Assula In reply to ??? [2013-02-22 04:41:05 +0000 UTC]

Hello! I was wondering if you lined your leotard or if you didn't need to. Thank you so much for your tutorial!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SparklePipsi In reply to Assula [2013-02-22 22:05:20 +0000 UTC]

Nope, I didn't line mine ~ I used pretty thick lycra so it wasn't necessary! If your lycra is on the thinner side you may want to line it, but it's up to you, either way should work :3

MegaLoki16 In reply to ??? [2013-02-19 20:21:57 +0000 UTC]

Thanks so much! Would this work with a pre bought leotard?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SparklePipsi In reply to MegaLoki16 [2013-02-20 08:35:07 +0000 UTC]

No problem <3! I'm sure it could work on a pre-bought leotard, you could probably make the skirt/hip roll seperately and snap or velcro them onto the leotard instead of sewing it ~ I know a lot of people choose to do their skirt piece separate, so I'm guessing that would work fine! Buying lycra and making your own would probably be cheaper tho, unless you can find a good deal somewhere!! xD

chewynmunchy In reply to ??? [2013-02-09 18:45:16 +0000 UTC]

I'm having trouble making the hip rolls smooth when I'm stuffing it, do you have any advice on that? I tried stuffing them loosely so the lumps wouldn't be obvious but they ended up looking derpy instead :/

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SparklePipsi In reply to chewynmunchy [2013-02-11 18:37:47 +0000 UTC]

Hmmm ~ you do need a decent amount of stuffing, just don't pack it to max capacity; you need enough to make a nice shape, but not so much that it folds or creases when you bend it over your hip. As you stuff, you can kinda massage the hip roll to even out the lumps as you go ~ it kinda softens up the batting and helps to spread it out more evenly. I hope that helps <3!

chewynmunchy In reply to SparklePipsi [2013-02-25 01:00:43 +0000 UTC]

I stuffed the hip rolls and the arm rolls a little more and both turned out much better! Thank you so much!!
