Are you running it on a PC? I doesn't crash on my Mac. @_@ I love photoshop. I cuddle with it at night, but I'm cheating on it with Illustrator.

I'm running it on a mac, but it still hangs and does strange things sometimes. It hasn't in a while though, so I keep going back to it...even though I know it'll hit me again.

Yeah! Fuck photoshop!
Even though it makes detail nicer, colors pictures smoother, and allows you to have layers to work off of, who needs it!
Paint is the way to go! Its simple brush tool, limited colors, and almost no buttons are the way to go!
Who needs to be a proffesional artist with an art program that has been used and praised for years!
What were we thinking, ohohohohohoho...Ugh.

you completely fell into the category i'm most at odds with. on this issue.

do i look like u use MSPaint for my work? do you honestly believe there is only one program besides MSPaint? does this sound a lot funnier when i say it back to you than it did when you said it?

enjoy ignorance.

jaymazing In reply to sparkpenguin [2009-08-29 12:49:42 +0000 UTC]

They do have GIMP, and SAI but those are upgraded to the max version of photoshop.
Photoshop has a lot more to offer, and I like it better. And flash too, flash is great.
You're the one being ignorant, don't turn this around on me.

sparkpenguin In reply to jaymazing [2009-08-31 03:07:25 +0000 UTC]

okay, so now you're saying that there were three non MSPaint programs but they've all been merged into one.

you are not doing yourself any favors in this conversation.

I meant, they were upgraded to the max versions of paints, scuse my language to think they were btter than photoshop nernerner

sparkpenguin In reply to jaymazing [2009-08-31 07:32:42 +0000 UTC]

oh.

well then why argue if we agreed?

personally my only real beef with Photoshop has virtually nothing to do with the program itself. well, apart from them pretty much monopolizing the industry when it comes to universities/art tech schools.

but mostly it's users that bother me; thanks to tutorials of the last three or four years people generally seek out Photoshop in particular because they aspire to create cookie-cutter works in a generally monotonous style which resembles traditional marker coloring/game concept art. it's an anime thing.

in reference to my own ignorance, i do want to clear up that i'm not implying at all that there aren't any people out there who do their won works and produce interesting things with the program.

I know tons of people who don't misuse photoshop.
The only ones who do, are those furries who think if they turn Sonic purple and add paints its called art.

sparkpenguin In reply to jaymazing [2009-09-01 05:53:31 +0000 UTC]

Sonic art is very rarely Photoshop... i typically see bad Paint work submitted by 14 year olds.

Kyttibat [2009-07-03 04:25:37 +0000 UTC]

The problem lies more in the fact that it's become mainstream and trendy and that everyone thinks it automatically makes them a great artist, not the program itself.

Photoshop does take skill to use; why do you think that so much of what people make all looks the same? It's not because that's all the program allows for, it's because most it's users' skill levels don't go beyond that. Most of them learned to use it in a high school class inwhich they were completely dictated by a teacher or are "self taught" using their favorite DA artist's tutorial.

I had used a lot of other programs, mainly Freehand and other 80's-90's programs that I don't remember the names of, before I ever heard of PS or even MSpaint. I'm actually glad that of the digital art classes I took in high school, I always had a teacher that didn't really tell us what to do; it was mostly "Here's a computer and PS, do whatever you want." Which was great; I taught myself with no tutorials and little to no instructions, and that enabled me to find my own style and techniques.

I don't think it's the absolute best thing ever but it is pretty well designed and versitile when used properly. Plus, I got it for free, free makes everything better.

The program I really hate though is Illustrator...uhhg, awful, pain in the ass.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

sparkpenguin In reply to Kyttibat [2009-07-03 06:44:45 +0000 UTC]

see, i agree with everything you said.

but "fuck Photoshop users abusing simple zero-to-greatness techniques to create cookie-cutter works of low-brow caliber without getting any real talent or vision on their own" is way too big for a stamp.

but we're pretty much on the same page. if i had Photoshop on my computer still, i'm sure i could use it to do a lot of what i do in PSP without looking too off-the-rack.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Kyttibat In reply to sparkpenguin [2009-07-03 16:24:12 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, that would be a bit long; but it would be kind of funny in an obnoxious sort of way. XD

I think people should just use whatever program they feel most comfortable using on their own and finding their own style with. If you have to rely on tutorials, find a different program. Personally I think it's more fun to be entierly self taught because you're always discovering new techniques and watching yourself improve.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

sparkpenguin In reply to Kyttibat [2009-07-04 09:49:17 +0000 UTC]

i suppose i could... scroll it... through a stamp.

i am in fact self-taught on PSP. it took me a year to find out i could vector with it and a few more months before i realized blend modes and layering. learning curve sped up a little bit after i stopped frigging with the photo effects and filters solely.

but i love how it can open any file from any program. it's... just so mack daddy as balls like that.

fare thee well on your tough journey as will i continue to weather my own troubles!
oh, and be sure to get some vagina!!

but yeah i hate the overuse and sheepy art trends that come out of the gigantic user population of that program, if we agree on anything.

I've never used Photoshop but.... Lots of people think "I use photoshop, I'm a great artist" (something comic for me )

Wtf? Are a lot of of free excellent graphic programs, Gimp for example What for have illegal PS (I really don't think that lots of amateur graphics want pay for that ) If we can have something similiar, legal and for free

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

sparkpenguin In reply to Arctosis [2009-06-08 03:34:26 +0000 UTC]

or even something that's also illegal but just better. the principle of how powerful a program is or where you get it doesn't concern me as much as the MONOPOLY that PS seems to have-- both on industry pros with cash, and illegal downloading amateurs alike. no one seems to realize that there is more than one program out there!

yeah. i use PSP. which is a lot fancier than PS.

it's just not.... well it just doesn't do half the work for you with the tools it comes with.

sparkpenguin In reply to lionessJenna [2008-08-12 08:01:26 +0000 UTC]

a little, but i mean there are other outlets for countering that negative energy that make it less important... i mean there's the United Way and the March of Dimes and whatnot, just little tax-deductible ways of saying sorry to the world for using Photoshop. i'd also suggest volunteering at the vet's center during the holidays, always good for polishing one's karma whether it's bad graphics decisions or giving someone the clap.

lionessJenna In reply to sparkpenguin [2008-08-12 18:08:26 +0000 UTC]

So as long as I'm payying the world back it's semi-ok to use photoshop? Wouldn't that kinda make photoshop a good thing if it makes it's users into helpfull people?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

sparkpenguin In reply to lionessJenna [2008-08-13 05:08:50 +0000 UTC]

well you could also say that being a serial killer is a good thing because while you're in prison you can get your PhD in psychology and write a book that helps people-- but you still killed all those hitchhikers with a chainsaw and everything you do in life will be taken in the context of "reformed serial killer."

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

lionessJenna In reply to sparkpenguin [2008-08-13 06:06:01 +0000 UTC]

But considering I've being using photoshop for a while already how can I avoid being labeled a "reformed photoshop user". Is there any hope for me?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

sparkpenguin In reply to lionessJenna [2008-08-13 06:28:12 +0000 UTC]

not really, but that's the nature of sin. your best bet is to learn to be a better person-- and unfortunately, like for our hypothetical serial killer, a suicide survivor like me, and a photoshop user like you, as good a person as you can be it'll only be measured against your tattered past. with time, your peace and dignity may hide the scars on your heart from the eyes of others... maybe.

lionessJenna In reply to sparkpenguin [2008-08-13 19:37:38 +0000 UTC]

Thank you for the advice, I will work hard to make up for my photoshop using sins. Till the day I die.

What digital art program would you recomend instead then?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

sparkpenguin In reply to Shining-Wolf-Aero [2008-05-13 06:00:47 +0000 UTC]

paint shop pro, gimp, shit even MS paint (and each program requires significantly more talent to get the most out of it, actually). photoshop is a novice's magic wand. granted, people who can draw well like using it because it takes 70% of the effort out of a coloring job using snazz alone.

PSP is my program of choice though. and it's the most versatile on the market (mine was when i got it).

...case. in. point.

PAINTSHOP, DUMAZZ. there are more programs available than the apple-fagz.
but i do really admire your usage of the fry stamp. ;_; i miss seeing him on adult swim. less anime, more futurama.
so definitely A+ comment.
