Description let's play:
count the stolen items!
concepts not included.

i was going through my old art looking for any gems i might've missed from my hi-skool dayz (my talent's "heyday") and i found this. i can't believe i'd never scanned/shared it before.

well, before LOA, before vector--shitting hell, before i could do ANYTHING artistic on the computer, i had a 'little' project called Silicon Half.
i didn't know the meaning of inking one's art for presentation.
i didn't know the meaning of one having one's own style.
i colored laboriously with watercolor paints and rarely changed out my rinse cup. and i drew and painted all on copy paper.
i also was several years into a gender crisis i began in the sixth grade, and dressed like this. well, at least i thought i was hot.

Silicon Half (or Si/2 as i thought was so super kewl) was basically a plagiarized bastardization of everything i liked about anime crossmutated with my older fantasy writing that became a giant very bad story. cyberpunk, necromancy, spaceships, dragons, you know the drill. early influences included Euro fantasy and the Animorphs (hey it was the 90's!) i later found a taste for Asian fare and borrowed freely from my alltime faves Ghost in the Shell, Armitage III, Saber Marionette J and oh-- can't forget GW and DBZ! so basically Jen was an orphaned alien cyborg teen mom in the military who had an obligation to the city in which she lived to also protect it from evil dragons. oh, and none of this took place on Earth, but a lot of humans in the military on her other-other home planet lived there in secret. she had a killer "true form" that was a giant saber toothed snow leopard with horns and she retained the tail (and originally the ears) of this form.

no one really addressed me face to face about how lame and stolen it all was. i abandoned it after some-odd eight years of sluggish, unrealistic "production." i had started refining it into something of my own in the early 2000's, but i couldn't rescue it. i was really good with the different styles i copied but there was just no trace of myself in it; by my junior year i had already developed an odd daydream about the world inside of my head into a full-fledged story item that later became LOA. JnJ was also very strong on my mind a lot. both revolved around iterations of my life and featured main characters based off of myself-- one a lot cooler and stronger, and the other a lot more of a hapless love victim.

the bottom of my gallery is full of this crap, as well as some scattered JnJ art and proto-Law of Averages work (i called it the Private Lives of Major Ka back then). it's aight i guess. interestingly different from my stuff now. i revisited and rewrote much of this, and also cleaned up the image a lot so i thought i'd uncheck the minor edit and let folks see it once more.

it took a long time for me to realize it, but... Jen sucks. i'm glad i trashed the project, but it will always have a special place in my heart (and in the Eden box office records XD)

Now this is a golden oldy! Hell that's from way before i met you! I still think you should work on that story as well as LOA. Alotta great art came from that series. At least that's what I think anyways.

ah, it's tottaly normal to be making... let's say wonky stories. You did what you liked, and you liked what you did (what the heck i just wrote?). You weren't doing it for living or something, you were doing it for yourself.

And look at me, I'm doing the same thing right now! -_-

nono... i totally agree with what you say, about doing what you like. and true, i did like this when i was still writing it.

but i was pretty dumb at the time. i think now as an adult, i don't make that mistake. i take more discretions, i write better. my ideas are better.

trust me your stuff is a LOT better than Silicon Half! don't compare yourself to my terribly childhood works, you've got potential! that story... did not.

for me it's the hardest task to find the WHY. WHY the heck they are doing this, WHY the heck that is bad/good, etc..... -_-
Because without the WHY the story is empty -_-

that's what i fought with when i wrote LOA. i mean, the existence of everything within and beyodn the universe is a BIG DEAL. you start tossing that around like any other save-the-day scenario, and you start to care less about life... ROFL i noticed that happening to me.

"oh, US troop surge in Iraq? global warming? pfffft that's nothing. at least it's not the end of the entire universe." *changes TV channel*

XD
loads of anime cartoons choose the same reasons. OH, MY GAWD, THE END OF DA WORLD.... But that's classic, and I kinda love it ^_^
I dunno why such scenario became so popular. To make the adventures and stuff of the anime/cartoon more thrilling/interesting (most likely)? To make the real problems in your life seem less horrible???? Even know global warming scares the pants off me :scared: I mean, political stuff and wars, they don't affect that many people, and when they end, atleast some of the damage done can be restored..... even know i would NEVER want to get in the middle of a war, it's horrible. But not more horrible than nature itself going nuts and having irreversable damage to the climate. The consequences of global warming can be terrifying..... almost the end of the world to me -_- (I've read a wery scary article about it.....I couldn't sleep that night...)

SHIT, THE CARTOONZ ARE BECOMING REALITY......

nature isn't going nuts. it's all part of a cycle. if we don't learn to adapt, we'll lose. just like the rest of the extinct-o species on the planet. the planet ITSELF will be just fine, no matter what us puny humans do.

you really think so? still, the greenhouse effect and that whole dissapearing ozone layer shit is definetly is our, humans fault. And we have to do something UNTIL IT'S TOO LATE.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

sparkpenguin In reply to my-twisted-logic [2007-07-08 03:45:57 +0000 UTC]

psh. yeah. too late for US. the planet will be all right.

carbon dioxide existed and boomed before cars and factories dude. the ozone layer hasn't been around in full force for Earth's entire life. it's... kind of an abstract thing to understand, but everything in a planet's lifetime is just a series of extremes with short balances in between. humans have been lucky enough to thrive just before and all during one of those balances. we're gonna heat up hotter than hell, then go back to an ice cube in the next few thousand years. the planet is NEVER stable. that idea is just ridiculous, if you think about it... i mean taking care of the environment is important, and humans speed up the process a little, but the world media is really scaring the shit out of people with bogus facts and unjustified statistics.

When I said that the planet is going nuts (i don't even really remember what I wrote there O_o) I meant she is going nuts on us. Like an angry housewife on her drunk husband XD.

....i just hope that everything will go bad around here a s late as possible.....

Hey Sparky its me Brezerckfury and I actually think this character looks great. I love the way you did her hands and the gun she's holding behind her back. The lines for the gun are extremly defined and straight...simply magnificent. The orange shirt however...is KILLING me! You have got to change the overall design of the thing. The eyes and the hair are pretty. I really like how you did the eyelashes. Keep up the good work!!!!

sparkpenguin In reply to Brezerckfury [2007-07-02 07:43:37 +0000 UTC]

you mean you don't like her unbuttonoed surf-shirt-and-whifebeater-tank combo!? not even with camo pants!? for shame! this was the HEIGHT-O-STYLE IN 1999 WHEN IT WAS DRAWN/CONCEIVED.

i can't stand this character anymore. i like the drawing, i effin' love it even today, but... the character sucks. everything about her/her story/her personality.

i WISH i could still draw this well. i wasted my talents and left them to rot after this... this... mental abortion of a concept.

sparkpenguin In reply to bertroberts [2007-07-02 01:11:14 +0000 UTC]

no... most of my names were American or alien-ish stuff i made up.

the japanese thing never really broke into the story content, aside from the art style i started using.

honestly, i like the look of the character a lot. Reading the description of your highschool story writing days makes me feel nostaligic. Full of brainfart induced ideas in my case O_o
the watercolour army pants are quite mesmerizing! <3

sparkpenguin In reply to Daemonysh-Art [2007-06-28 04:16:09 +0000 UTC]

brainfart is the word! "oh i like that. think i'll change the haircolor but keep the story arc for myself."

but it made me feel so EPIC...

i still think she looked cool enough, just full of borrowed fashion sense and a really uninspired history.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

sparkpenguin In reply to midnight-eyes [2007-06-28 04:18:15 +0000 UTC]

yeah i'm surprised the paper didn't buckle more.

i don't work on ANY of my old content. it sucks. and this isn't my style... it's everyone elses style in the anime world. i dropped it because it was so... "bleh." i hated it.

but unfortunately i had developed it pretty far, it was hard to reverse some of the die-hard anime tendencies.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

midnight-eyes In reply to sparkpenguin [2007-06-29 03:21:12 +0000 UTC]

That's true. I'm into more realistic stuff now, but I still draw a lot of anime because it's the first style I taught myself to draw, and I still really like it. I think you have your own style, though, and how you have some anime qualities in it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

sparkpenguin In reply to midnight-eyes [2007-06-29 04:34:30 +0000 UTC]

yeah it's got the same principle, but like there are a lot of anime series that had weird stules that stuck out. that you can look at something and KNOW what series it's from.

less and less is that happening... all the styles kinda look the same lately. i miss the kind of distinction like i saw in Saber Marionette and OF COURSE, Akira Toriyama's work. other things of course but... can't think of any now.
