Predates the 1980s from what I can gather, that's when they started using the new wordless crossbuck.

I do like the newer ones, but the older crossbucks have lots of character.

In the background of this image   you can see an English-only crossbuck. I bought it for $50, not long after the railroads were mandated to replace them all by French ones in Québec. I still have it.

N scale actually, and yes, it was one of those spur of the moment decisions. My only regret is that I didn't buy an extra one or two, I could ave sold it five times easily.

Look on the other side, at least you got one, right? N scale is also an excellent scale, though I find it to be a little tedious sometimes.

Absolutely! And yeah, N scale can be finicky at times, but the density that can be achieved is worth it IMHO.

I also enjoy how much of a layout you can have in such a small space, you can buikd so much in a spare room gor example.
