d. Adaptive: This caste arose from a mutation only a few hundred years ago back in their old home territory light years away. Because the caste is new they don't have much of a traditional place in the colony. However their versatility allowed them to proliferate and become distinguished from the other castes. The now long-dead coordinators of the colonies the adaptive appeared in likely facilitated this, seeing their potential as a replacement for labourers and perhaps even slaves well ahead of their time. The adaptives could adapt to the tasks given wherever there was a need, but what made them unique was their ability to understand scientific concepts that eluded the minds of the zyn species up until that point.

What also makes adaptives unique is that zyn have an ability to transform and disguise themselves, and adaptives are the best caste at it. They have overtaken the coordinator caste in this ability, who used to be best at it.

In many colonies their social standing is low due to their exploitation potential and their lack of any tradition surrounding their place in a colony. They are often treated like labourers, but with a broader range of skills.
