Description I was bored.

Hope you can read my handwriting.

I talked about how I think Knuckles glides with someone in a forum a while ago and would have liked to add a few pictures even then. A picture is always easier to understand than a wall of text, right?

Anyway, this is my explanation on how echidnas in Sonic games are able to glide. I kept it somewhat simplified, of course real life aerodynamics are way more complex than that. I thought it's enough as it is here. Sega's official explanation is that Knuckles glides by trapping air under his spines. I thought about it for a while, and yup, if you interprete enough into it it works.

Special thanks and greetings go to everyone on the Sonic writers guild forum over at FFN for all the wonderful, crazy, thought provoking and fun discussions about Sonic stuff we've had.

On a different note, I'm pretty fond of the gliding Knuckles I drew here. Sketched him in five minutes or something. Maybe I'll take him and color him in a real painting sometime later.

I didn't thought about the aerodynamics before. But now this makes physically sense

The only way you can send a real echidna flying is throwing him. I wouldn't recommended when animal activists are present.

I wouldn't even throw it when no-one's watching. Poor little critter. What if it gets airsick? ^^

I think it is pretty cool that you did this! Explaining the science of flying echidnas.

Thank you! I think a lot about weird things like that. It's fun.

Actually, I tried (like a few other things before). This one I tried to submit to the Science of Sonic folder, if that's what you mean.

Very interesting.
It's amusing the logic that people can insert in a world of (mostly) talking animals.

Maybe you should try and figure the "mechanisms" of how Tails can fly. I've been thinking about that for a while regarding bone structure and stuff and it's kind of baffling me.

Thanks.
You can put logic into almost everything.

Maybe I'll do that. Or Sonic's supersonic running. I have a bunch of theories on that. The problem is more visualizing it properly, y'know?

I'd love to see them someday. You know, people say it's the shoes. Even I know that's most likely not true.

Perhaps I'll see to it.

Well, I think Sonic runs fast himself, but I support the theory that Sonic indeed does need his shoes to run fast. As protection for his feet. Without proper shoes, the friction of his acceleration would burn his feet off. O_o
