Description
This is what I have been working on for the past few days. Sorry I have not posted in a while, but I have had loads of mock exams to study for and several coursework deadlines. I will do other operating systems if requested enough or if you want to have a play with the source code then feel free, just leave my credit in if you redistribute.Tested on:
- Firefox 3.6.13
- Chrome 8
- Midori 0.2.4
Note - This may not look the same on webkit as it does in Firefox (screenshot is Firefox) - although one plus is that in webkit there is placeholder text in the search field.

I've created an updated version with the official Ubuntu branding colour scheme if you're interested at all in taking a look.

That does match the branding better. However I just don't like the "aubergine" colour they picked out.

How do you manage to set it as your homepage? I downloaded a bunch of files inside the .zip archive, what do I do next?
Thanks for sharing such a great design!

First off, extract the files from the zip to a folder.
In Firefox or IE, just open the page then go to Tools > Options...
Then press the "Use Current Page" button.
I'm not sure about chrome or other browsers, but they'll likely have a similar option in their options.

Extract the .zip archive to a safe location. Then (in Firefox) go to File > Open File (CTRL+O) navigate to the location of the homepage.html file. Open it, then go to Edit > Preferences and go to the General tab. Then press uses current page for the homepage option. For Chrome and other browsers you will have to ask around (as I do not use Chrome) but I coded it so it should work.

Ahhhh! Too much purple!
Use aubergine (Canonical's color) instead.

A little question, maybe stupid but: Is there a way to intergrate the thumbnails of the most visited websites in Chrome? With a better design than in Chrome?

I might look into it. Because of the popularity of this I will work on releasing version 2.

Sorry, I didn't test it in Opera, only Chrome and Midori. Can you post a link to a screenshot and tell me the version number to help me fix it.

My problem is the same as gwallgofi described above -- the layout is fine but the purple gradient doesn't show up. It's pure white.
I'll probably just go in and add a background myself.

gwallgofi In reply to spiceofdesign [2010-12-17 14:19:39 +0000 UTC]
Layout is correct in Opera but it does not display the purple background (I assume this is generated from the CSS? If so, then it fails with that. Tested with Opera 11)
You can use this website - [link] - to get screenshots of how your website look across many different browsers on different platforms.

A quick look suggest that Opera doesn't do colour gradients for background (Opera tend to be more fussy about following specifications so if it's not in specification, it's not supported. I don't think colour gradient is yet defined in CSS3?) so you might want to make a fallback onto a single colour for Opera. Hope that's of some help.

I'll add in a flat colour fallback for Opera.
