Description Hot Weather 2 - "Watch the climate change..."
--------------------------------------------

IMPORTANT:
---------------

See
[link] =529528
if the desklet stopped working -
weather.com changed their way of providing the weather data, so here's the info....
---------------

Hi there -

this is the next version of my "HotWeather" desklet for AveDesk.
Requires AveScripter version 1.0.7.5!!!

Featuring:
----------
- A rotationg Sky with Sunrise,-set and Moon phases!
- Detailed Weather forecast (Hover over small icons to change High/Low temp, probability of rain info & text forecast)
- Even more detailed information for present day: Present temp, humidity, wind speed & direction and local time
- Skinable!! Comes with 3 skins...
- Two (transparent) color masks for colorizing the skin
- Choose different weather icons and sky images (Download includes default icons/images only, it's big enough as it is)
- Switch between your favourite cities via a dropdown menu at the front of the desklet
- Satellite map
- Hotkey for showing/hiding the desklet (see help file for Ascii-Codes of the letters, e.g. "082"="R" as in the preview for ALT+R)

FIRST Run:
----------
Will take 1 or 2 minutes to start and slow your PC down - on first run the desklet will create images for the sky (only ONCE).
No worries!
(Due to the fact, that it's not possible to rotate an image without rotating it's mask (hiding parts of the sky), too.)

Installation:
---------------
Rename HotW........ZIP to HW2.AVEINST and doubleclick it while AveDesk is running... DONE!

...I really don't know, why deviantArt keeps on renaming the files - there are so many skin formats that are based on zip and shouldn't be renamed...

Important:
----------
- Default skin uses a LCD font, which normally should be installed automatically - if not, just copy it from ...AveDesk/Desklets/AveScripter/HotWeather2/Fonts to C:/Windows/Fonts
- If you want to use other icons, just copy the set to .../HotWeather2/Small_Icons and/or .../HotWeather2/Big_Icons respectively
- Making your own skin: Easiest way is copying a folder in .../HotWeather2/Skins, renaming it and changing images/xml-file (the default one is best commented)
- Changing to a new city: Go to HotWeather Options via Rightclick, Type in "Cityname(, Country)" without Enter/Return and select a city from the dropdownmenu... it will be added top to your favourite cities list
- Requires AveScripter version 1.0.7.5

Thanks to
---------
- Pierre-e Gougelet / [link] for "nconvert" (needed to rotate the images)
- Southern Software, Inc. for the LCDDisplayCapsSSi font used with the default skin (from [link] )
- redheadstock aka Stephanie Shimerdla at [link] / [link] for her glitter brushes (helping me crating a night sky in less than a minute...)
- Vladstudio for his great wallpapers (as in the preview)

NEW to AVEDESK??
----------------
Installing AveDesk (complete guide):

1) Download AveDesk 1.3 here: [link]
or for VISTA (home premium): [link]

2) Unzip/Unrar it to your programs folder (assumed) C:\programs\...\AveDesk
3) Doubleclick C:\programs\...\AveDesk\register.bat - this "installs"/registers AveDesk

If you want to update to AveDesk 2 Beta (runs nicely),
- download it here: [link]
- Unzip it to C:\programs\...\AveDesk (Overwriting old files)
- Delete the folder C:\programs\...\AveDesk\Languages (translations make it crash)

4) Download latest AveScripter (AveScripter & AveScripter Update) - [link]
5) Doubleclick the downloaded avescripter.aveinst while AveDesk is running (first AveScripter, then the AveScripter Update)
6) Download latest HotWeather2.aveinst or other desklets at my deviantArt page or here: [link]
7) Doubleclick the downloaded ???.aveinst-file while AveDesk is running

If you want to use SysStats Docklets with AveDesk also:
- Download latest SysStats here: [link]
- 7) Doubleclick the downloaded SysStats.aveinst while AveDesk is running

... So this is a complete instruction, all desklets/docklets available for AveDesk should function with this setup.
Some desklets/docklets (SysStats, ObjectDock docklets) don't come as *.aveinst files - in this case unzip them in the folder C:\programs\...\AveDesk\Desklets or C:\programs\...\AveDesk\Docklets

really nice weather widget to relace my old and not so accurate yahoo widget !

Just one question and an observation :
- is there a way to scale it (resize) ? because, even on my 30"monitor, 2560x1600, it uses a lot of space ?
- I've got an error showing multiple times in the desklet properties panel, avescripter error log tab, saying :
"13  Erreur d'exécution Microsoft VBScript
"Type incompatible: 'Latitude'  Line:106   Column:1

I run windows 7 ultimate x64

I can't figure out how to set this up. I have AveDesk & AveScripter both installed. But try as I might I can't get this desklet to run properly. All I get is the base (see here: [link] ). I can enter the options menu (not that that does anything really) but that's about it.

Can someone help me, please?

I'm running Vista SP1 if that's relevant.

How do you add cities to the desklet?
Mine seems to not be on there.

Hi there -

Go to Hotweather options and type your 'city, country' in the field (s.11 in the preview pic). Then don't press enter but the dropdown button to the right to get a list of cities matching - selecting one adds it to your favourite cities list.
The desklet uses the weather channel that should feature most cities, if not, just select a major city nearby...

Thanks. I tried doing that at first, but the information in the center of the desklet always seemed to be missing. I suppose that it may be unavailable from the weather channel?

I love it though. Part of the reason I have it on my desktop is because its very pretty

Hi - maybe searching for the city at weather.com itself could help. It might be easier to find the code this way as you have a direct feedback.
If you're living in an US city, I'm pretty sure they have it in the list (Maybe there are 2 city codes - one for local and one for 'world wide' weather?).

And another thing could be that you have problems with the font supplied with the desklet? It should be installed automatically... (You can check be opening an editor and look if 'LCDDisplayCapsSSi' is in the font list - if not ).
If not, could you copy it in your font directory manually?

Hi there -

if this didn't work you probably didn't run the register.bat like in point 3) of my AveDesk installation.

But you can also
- either drag'n drop the file onto the AveDesk control panel or
- unzip the content to ...\AveDesk\Desklets\

Nope, that wasn't it. I had to change the opening properties to "open with...avedesk". It was originally "open with...winrar", which is the default setting for zip files. An easy fix but had me scratching my head for a moment- maybe some other ppl that are less computer savee might experience the same thing. Anyway, worth the reply. And thanks for this -it really is awesome!
