Description
Pt 1 of my JL heromatic redesign mini-side project. (My Splendorized version of JL... again)As far as character redesigns go, this one was pretty conservative. Seriously in terms of costume and character/personality goes, The Flash is doing it right. That said, I've managed to make a few changes that I think fit my idea of the character (and superheroes in general, Splendorized) while still being true to the character (I'm going to tackle one of these characters in the future, might as well practice).
"Too Flash; Too fabulous."
Barry West is the very best at what he does: speed.
The scientist reversed engineered his suit from a certain Kryptonian...
Not only is The Flash fast, but he's quick. He has a fast mind and has so much snark and sarcasm that it would take an army of Whedon's to write him (for those of you who were wondering, "why doesn't Flash have a movie?" that's why... and it's The Flash).
Also. I combined the names of both Flashes, because I don't have a major preference. Also his name is The Flash. He will correct you if you call him Flash.
I'm back! And I missed you guys!

Too bad they cast Ryan Reynolds as Hal, he would've been fun for a film for The Flash, oh well.
Nice design, it does fit either of the two Flash's and goes well with the character without being too similar or too different.
Though, I can't help at snicker at the fact that it looks an awful lot like the suit Iris West is now wearing in the current Flash comics, primarily the mask.

Yeah he's a better fit for The Flash (heroic with a sarcastic humorous undertone)as opposed to Hal (who's just serious). Kyle Rayner would be a better Lantern for Reynolds, but not by much.
Thanks, I didn't want to make the costume too distinctive because to me (and the general public) The Flash is pretty much one guy. Just wanted to consolidate without robbing or ruining anything about the character.
Haha, really? That's funny; I'm not familiar with the character.

Yep; I guess they were doing the usual 'merge Legacy characters together' thing they do, since they play him closer to Kyle then Hal anyway.
Well it works, so good job there.
I've only been keeping a very loose follow on the title because its Barry instead of Wally, but its something about the current story arc being about other people gaining Flash powers and Iris is one of them, so Barry made her a suit to control it or some such.

Guess that makes sense.
Thanks.
Interesting. Similar to the "Extremes" virus in Iron Man 3?

No problem.
Basically yeah. Amusingly enough, reaction to her costume seems to be 'wow, its better than Barry's!' and amazement at a female character with a neckline that isn't used for shameless fanservice.

Nice, way to go DC, making respectable female redesigns on "unimportant" characters.

In fairness, they did TRY to make Power Girl's design a bit more respectable, and give Wonder Woman pants for a while, but fans complained (and in the case of Power Girl, many of the fans complaining were female fans). Of course, that doesn't change the fact that they completely redesigned Harley Quinn for no purpose but to 'make her hotter', among other idiotic ideas that border on sexism.

Wonder Woman's design was pretty good minus the jacket and choker. It wasn't a good Amazon Warrior look in my opinion, but it made a respectable Wonder Woman, which is all you could really ask for.
PG's window is here to stay, the very least I ask is that they treat it with respect (how many times can her Kryptonian armor get torn to shreds) and give her a legitimate reason to have one ("I couldn't think of a symbol" is lowercase bs as well as "I'm a woman, so there.").
It's on the same level of (in lack of a better word) stupidity as Superman's trunks (only kept around because it's classic). Artists have found a way for it to work (DeviantArt is good for stuff like that), and I'm perfectly fine with that ... unfortunately those designs are almost never canon.
I feel like writers try to out "dark" Ledger's Joker portrayal by getting gratuitously creepy (ie skin mask; it's cool but is it still the Joker?) and as a result people try to legitimize Harley as a character to match. The ironic thing is that they're perverting the character (in more way than one)

It would've worked better as some kind of Smallville style origin story, you know, like for the brief period of time after she left her home and came to the US but before she became Wonder Woman. But, had they removed the jacket and added more armour, it would've been great for a modern Wonder Woman costume.
Pretty much, yeah. If they kept it a realistic size (instead of being so big that, realistically, she'd have exposed herself every time she went flying around with it), and maybe, instead of trying to excuse it, were just honest about it existing to make her chest more noticeable, it wouldn't be a big deal.
Supes' trunks are like Optimus being a flatnose truck; its not really all that important, but its so iconic (IE, what they're used to seeing) that removing it is wrong for some reason (Or, to be blunt, for some people, 'chaaange is BAAAD!').
Pretty much, and it leads to something that doesn't make sense. If the goal is to 'make them darker', why does giving Harley a drastic makeover that involves making her walk around in a pair of short-shorts, make her any darker than her previous attire? If they wanted to make her design darker, wouldn't just adding rips/tears, dimming the colours, and maybe giving her running makeup do that enough? It looks darker without changing the basic aspects.

Agreed. Idea is good, but execution could've been better, but to be fair WW is pretty difficult to redesign.
Yeah, p
"Yeah, but.... t&a..." I agree oversexualizing a character like Harley (who already had a subversively sexual origin to begin with) to make her "darker and more mature" is contradictory and, quite frankly, stupid.

True. There's certain aspects of her design that are too important to her character you need to keep. Her bracelets, tiara, and general colour scheme are like Batman's cowl and cape, and Superman's lack of a mask, red cape, and blue body, or even Spider-Man's eyes and spider symbol.
Pretty much, yeahh. Though, from what I've heard and seen, she's still written as good ol'Harley, they just need to give her back her clothes.

Super-speedy! Nice and simple. And yes, Flash does need his own quick-witted movie. A slightly less-broody superhero for once, eh?

Strangely enough Ryan Reynolds was the voice for Turbo, a snail version of The Flash.

Thanks, I admire the simplicity of The Flash's costume and didn't want to ruin that for the sake of being "different."
He'd definitely make a fun movie! A nice breath of fresh air within WB/DC and CBMs in general.
