Description I finally caught my Unicorn.

Sorry, was watching "Gone in Seconds" earlier and that line just seems to fit with this piece.

This has been, without a doubt, the hardest page I've EVER done. I don't think Joel ever meant for this page to be inked as a blueline file, but I did it, and now I'm gonna ahve to wring his neck when I see him.

I keed.

Serously though. I've taken more breaks working on this thing than any other page I've worked on over the years. My eyes started messing up as I went along, trying to see the little nuances that make this page frickin unbelievable. And now that I'm done, I can sit back and get to work on the easier pieces I've been waiting to get to. So let me know what'cha think. I'm sure plenty of you are gonna add this to your faves, and I appreciate that. Better this one than that MAD! page.
I just hope that when Joel returns from Wonder Con and gets this page in his e-mail later, that he'll believe I've done his pencils justice.

This is just beautiful. (and I told JG so at Chicago Wizard World this year!)
Your inks make it even better. The level of detail and hard work is staggering. Excellent, inspiring job!!!!

Thnaks D. Glad you like it. And thanks for the Fave. I e-mailed it off to Joel, and sent a copy to Mort to see what he thinks, but I've just woken up from a 5 hour nap, so chance are I'll hear from them both sometime tomorrow.

holy crap. what are those at the lower half of the city? Victorian style houses?

I love batman.

Thanks Terr. and yeah, they do seem like Victorian houses. Over the last couple of days, that little front foreground corner on the right side was the only thing I had left to do, and finally got it all done earlier this morning. The brick work on the walls there I had to change up a bit as I went along, but I think it all came out pretty good.

Its really top notch work, I must say. I only mention the houses because they are in such contrast to the high tech quality of the rest of the city. The time line differences in he architecture are pretty big. (Some thing to meditate on I guess.) Adds depth.

Yeah, I noticed that too. Especially with the gothic style church in the middle ground, with the somewhat Modern style arche taht extends to the sky. the whole thing is downright incredible.

But you did a fabulous job. Inking is just so hard. :/

Sure, at first, and defiantely when you're working on a page like this...but sometimes it's easy as hell and you can get an entire page done in less than a day. Other times it may take 2-3 days. And as long as you have the appropraite tools at hand (like french curves and templates), it makes things even easier.

Get to using them. I've got one that is busted through on one side, but it's my favorite one (and my second version) and just can't see throwing it out.

The other day I spilled ink all over my desk on top of one and it made a curly pattern on this my table.. which would be cool if not for that fact that my dad made me that table and it was real special.

Use some Windex, or even just straight up ammonia diluted with water to clean the ink off the table. It'll take a while, and a shitload of papertowels to clean it all up, but it works.

I use both to thin out my Speedball ink when it gets too thick. Especially the jar I use for my quills. I'm back to using 2 jars now with these sample pages because the jar I use to spot blacks with, needs to be thicker than the other to cover up these large blue areas on the paper.

Yeah, I never would have either, until I joined the Inkwell group on Yahoo! Groups. all these guys in the biz much longer than me....you learn a lot you'd never think you would.
Not to mention I work with one of the best inkers in the biz who's a great teacher.

Actually, I would KILL to work with Joel on something other than just using his pages as Samples. In which case, I jsut grabbed a bunch of pages off his gallery to use soon (have already bluelined them..just have to print them out). But yeah, if Joel called me tomorrow and said "I want you on this book"...I'd probably shit a brick in excitement.

It's been a while since I felt that excited. (except when I think about how cool it would be to be rich and imagine the land layout of my imaginary house; but that's neither here nor there.) I do get excited when I do an awesome job on a piece. I don't guess I have ever known anyone personally who was a way talented drawer.
