Team Mischief: Mission 5, Part 1Chapter 1: Crushed Party
Although all of the guild leaders had left a while ago, many teams were still celebrating Sorbet's birthday in Spinda Café. In spite of the late hour, it was business as usual for the three Café workers. Jones the Scolipede was still playing his piano, even though it was so loud in the Café that only the Pokémon near him could hear; Hops the Shuckle was making drinks at the bar; and Vertigo the Spinda's was teetering around with trays of food near the entrance to the underground Café.
"When does that stop?" Ice asked gesturing to a Purrloin sitting across from her. The two were members of a three Pokémon Rogue Team and had been at the Café for most of the party. Over the course of the party, the cat-like Pokémon had begun eating increasingly bizarre combinations of ice cream sundaes and berries until his purple fur was sticking out on end, and he couldn't stay still for more than five minutes.
"A few hours," the third member, Leilani replied.
"And he's our team leader why?"
"Joining the guild was his idea."
A loud roar interrupted the celebrating Pokémon, and the ceiling of the Café began to shake. Pokémon began stumbling up and looking around, while Vertigo and a Vulpix ran outside to see what was happening.
"Get under the table, now!" Leilani ordered. The Sewaddle crawled beneath once her teammates had darted under, and the three backed against the wall. As soon as all three were underneath wood, dirt, rocks, and snow rained down on the Café. From their vantage point under the table, the three members of Team Mischief could see the middle of the Café get crushed, blocking off the exit for many of the Pokémon who were still partying, themselves included. A second shake followed bringing down more of the Café, and causing large chunks of debris to land on their table and the floor around them, smashing the table and causing it to break in half and trap the team in their booth.
"Awwwwwww, that's not really how I would have ended the party," the Purrloin commented, as he moved away from the wall to examine the debris. "Nyaaaa, I'd have dropped candy from the ceiling instead of dropping the ceiling." His teammates stared blankly before rolling their eyes.
"Sly, wh- no, forget it," Ice moved forward and squinted at the debris, then selected a large rock to shove aside. With several grunts of effort the Sneasel managed to shove the rock away, only to fall back as smaller pieces of debris flooded under the booth to take the rock's place.
"Candy would have been betteeeeeer," Sly observed. "Or maybe not," he mused as he began playing with a stone that narrowly missed his teammate's head. Ice immediately slapped the rock into his face.
"Lend a paw here, I can't dig us out on my own," she hissed as she clawed furiously at the dirt, stone, and snow. Soon piles of muddy snow was under the table as the more the Sneasel dug, the more debris slid in.
"Stop before we drown in this," Leilani demanded. Ice froze and turned back.
"Then what do we do?" she snapped.
"I guess…we," she trailed off, unable to think of something for the team for once.
"Is someone in this booth?" a wavering voice called.
"Yes. We're stuck, there's too much snow in the way for us to dig ourselves out!" Leilani shouted back as she tried to crawl towards the blockade.
"I can fix that." There was a pause and the sound of objects shifting. Eventually, they saw a pinkish glow surrounded the debris and the snow aside, allowing the team to crawl out.
"Thank you," Leilani said after Sly carried her out.
"It's not a problem. I've been trying to help the other teams in here as best I can while my partner Scarlet finds out what's happening. She went out with Vertigo to find out what's happening," the Spinda finished with a gesture towards the entrance.
"And you're not doing the best job."
The three Rogues turned towards the pile of rubble to see a disgruntled Skitty lying on the ground, her tail disappearing into a pile of rubble. Next to her a Sneasel was tending to an unconscious Mankey.
"Silver!" Ice shouted. She bounced over to her older brother and hugged him, knocking him over. "You're okay!"
"No," he mumbled, awkwardly returning the hug. "Maurice and I were trying to move the rubble off of Coco. I had a bad grip on one piece and ended up dropping it on myself; Maurice couldn't hold it on his own and ended up falling off the pile and hitting his head on some of the rocks." Silver then sat up and showed his sister his two paws. One was clearly broken while the claws on the other were jaggedly smashed and the paw was bleeding.
"Oh," she replied, hugging him again.
"That's why you have to wait until other teams come to rescue us," the Spinda said looking at the Skitty. "The debris on your tail is too hard to lift, especially when most of the teams that are still in here are injured somehow."
"Well, now it looks like you have two more able bodied helpers," Coco hissed.
"Do either of you have any experience with this sort of thing?" the Spinda asked turning to Ice and Sly. Both of them shook their heads.
"So what you're saying is I'm supposed to wait here under all of this until the other teams try to dig us out?" she snarled.
Several broken beams laid crisscrossed between the back half of the Café and the entrance. Broken lights that had been carefully hung over the course of the past week were twinkling half-heartedly, while the banners were torn apart. The statue of Sorbet was among the debris that was in an unstable heap around the support beams. Snow covered most of the rubble making it slippery and blocking off any view of the ceiling. A layer of ice had been added on top of the snow to keep anything else from falling down. At the bottom, Coco laid, the edge of a beam squishing her tail and several pieces of debris covering the ends of the beam, making it difficult to find a way to uncover.
"It looks like it shouldn't be too hard for me to climb out an' get some help," Ice commented looking at the debris in front of them.
"No, you're going to knock the snow all over me," Coco whined. But the young Sneasel had already wiggled out of her brother's grip and dropped the present he had given her earlier in the evening by him and climbed onto the pile. Her claws easily made handholds for herself in the ice and she began to climb up only to lose her footing in the snow and roll down the pile of debris. "Lee, gimme some rope so I can try again," she grumbled rolling to her feet stiffly
"Wasn't that first attempt enough to prove that was an impractical way up?" Leilani asked.
"I'm not letting that thing stop us from getting out."
"No, let it you brat," grumbled Coco shaking snow off of herself and shivering.
"Unfortunately, she's right," Leilani said. "If you make it to the top you'll have the same problem we had when we were stuck under the table. Snow will just keep falling in when you try to dig yourself out. Save your energy and wait for someone else to come."
"Besides, the roof is pretty unstable. There's a chance you might make the collapse worse," Berry added.
Ice's eyes flicked back and forth between the spotted Pokémon teetering before her and the pile of debris.
"Fine," she grumbled, sitting next to her brother and pouting.
Eventually they heard a scraping sound beneath them, and suddenly a green and teal head popped out of a hole. The Pokémon had a massive set of jaws that were easily larger than the rest of her body. She was followed by a blue turtle whose face was partially concealed behind an orange scarf, and a bright red fox Pokémon.
"Scarlet!" shouted the Spinda as she wobbled up to the Vulpix, picked her up, and swung her around. "What's happening?"
"Berry, Sorbet's gone insane and is destroying the village. I told Mike that I'd help Fresnel and Maple lead him out of the village once you were safe," replied Scarlet.
"Let's go together then," Berry replied turning to the two Pokémon who had exited with her partner. The Squirtle and Trapinch had been joined by a Chinchou and Totodile in the mean time.
"Follow the tunnel outside. These two have frozen the tunnel so we shouldn't have to worry about a collapse. It'll lead directly to the Law Firm," the Squirtle said before turning to Coco. "More teams are coming to help move the debris. We'll get you out soon."
"Thank yooooou," Sly replied hopping into the hole after Berry and Scarlet. "Let's see what Captain wants us to do."
Silver turned to Coco. "I'm leaving with them. Maurice needs medical attention as soon as possible, and I'm useless here." The Sneasel awkwardly hoisted the Mankey onto his back, before following Team Orbit and Team Mischief. The Skitty just whined in response and put her head down.
The tunnel was slippery but the Pokémon were able to move through it. To pass the time, Scarlet had begun to rattle off information about what was going on outside. "The other guild leaders are moving Pokémon to the Law Firm, they've already evacuated the Medical Tent and are now working on getting Pokémon from the collapsed buildings to the Doctors," the Vulpix explained as the tunnel began to head uphill. Soon a cold wind bit at the Pokémon's faces as they emerged right in front of the keystone shaped building.
The Law Firm looked relatively unscathed, especially compared to the headquarters of the other two guilds. Silver stared at the Merchant headquarters, where most of the second floor had been obliterated. Berry winced at the sight of the splintered Rescuers' Tree House and Scarlet nuzzled her partner's side in an attempt to comfort her. After a moment of silence, Team Orbit moved towards a group of Pokémon that were illuminated by the red glow of an Ampharos's forehead.
"Well you three, don't just stand there."
The Rogue Team turned to see their Guild Leader Devonshire. The Sableye was calm in the face of the life-threatening calamity; although a part of it could have been that he had no life to lose. "I need some teams to help Gunpowder deal with the dragon, as well as escort evacuees, and there's a little thing to clean up in the tunnel although the young ladies should watch out for the fire and molten lava. Help with what appeals to you most."
"I wanna help Captain, buuuuuuut," Sly paused trying to find the right words.
"Well then let's do it!" Ice shouted beaming. She then turned to her brother. "I know this isn't your type of thing, so wouldja mind takin' care of the book ya gave me." The little Sneasel stood on her tiptoes so she could slide the gift between Silver and Maurice.
"LeeLee, what do you think?" Sly asked turning to look at his other partner.
"We're all very easy to step on. I freeze easily. You have no talent at prolonged combat, and we have very little combat experience as a team. We will all die young if we go near the dragon. There's a pleasant village and ranch that need evacuating," Leilani replied.
"C'mon Lee, it'll be fun," Ice said.
The Sewaddle stared at her teammate in horror.
"There will be other teams to help out," Sly mused turning to the group that was now leaving. "I think they can cover our weaknesses, let's gooooo!"
"Mister Sly, Mister Devonshire, do you think we can even last an hour against Kyurem?" Leilani asked.
"I actually need you and the other teams to last until sunrise for the best results," Devonshire replied. "Now, will you be participating in this mission too or will you go into the Law Firm with those two?" Devonshire gestured to Maurice and Silver, the latter of whom was staring at his younger sister.
"I suppose these two need someone who understands how insane this is," Leilani sighed. "But make sure I'm tied down to something so I'm not blown away from you as soon as we're near him."
"To Ice Cream's heaaaaad," Sly replied getting onto his two back legs so the Sewaddle could climb onto Ice's head easier. The Sneasel then bent down so the Purrloin could retie his teammates' scarves so Leilani was as securely and somewhat warmly fastened as possible.
"Ice, if you do this, you'll probably die. Please, don't," begged Silver.
"What are you talking about?" Ice asked staring at him. "Death's only what happens to prey before you eat it."
"Damn it, why didn't we have this talk with you earlier," Silver mumbled to himself. He then groaned and turned to his sister. "Prey isn't the only thing that dies. You know how sometimes older Sneasels vanished, like the one you used to have guard duty with? That's because they died. Slasher killed them. Besides, you've seen the dragon. You can easily be its prey."
"Wait, he's dead?" Ice asked.
"Yes, and you can be dead too if you go on this mission."
"Not if I move fast."
"There's really no talking to you some days," he turned to Devonshire. "You're just going to let her go off like that? She's in your guild you can tell her 'no, that's stupid, don't do it'."
"She is quite excited about the prospect of drawn out battle with the beast, and I'd hate to discourage such enthusiasm in one of my younger guild members," the Sableye replied.
"She's a little kid!"
"Yes, about the same age as Michael's younger sister Maple. Who's also going."
"Why?"
"Oh, apparently the little Stunky has a triangle that can move the snow, it'll be very helpful for Gunpowder. Not that fastest fellow in snow."
"All you'll be using Ice for is fighting. You can find plenty of Pokémon, plenty of other Sneasels, who can fight. Ice doesn't have any moves that are going to be strong against it. Really, of all the Sneasels in your guild you're letting one who doesn't know Metal Claw or Brick Break or anything else useful against an Ice-Dragon go!"
"This one wants to. I seem to detect your issue comes less from the fact that she's a small child, and more because she's related to you."
"But she doesn't know what she's getting into."
The Sableye paced then turned back to the Sneasel, glaring. "If I were you I wouldn't question the actions of other guild leaders, especially when it's your guild that released this dragon, and your guild leader has conveniently vanished."
"PK's gone?"
"Yes, Shroomsworth and Sandy think she's going to get help, but I doubt it. I suggest you do the smart thing and tend to your injured teammate."
Silver glanced back at the unconscious Mankey on his back then lowered his eyes. "Ice, please be careful," he whispered.
"I know what I'm doing," replied Ice as she started to catch up to Gunpowder's group. "I'll be fine, you go look after your paws."
"I'll do my best to keep her safe on this mission," Leilani called.
Silver waited until his sister was out of sight then moved into the Law Firm with Maurice.

Thanks for the Cameo; you actually did a pretty good Berry. I'd also imagined that Psychic would make a pink glow. :3

You're welcome!
It's assigned the color pink in games, plus regardless it seemed like a good fit for Berry.
