Description
The Kramplings were gleefully taunting the two trainers, or maybe the Krampus itself. One proudly wiggled its red behind from the top of the coal pile while the others dove in the coal pile only to resurface and blow raspberries or stick out there tongues.

“They are definitely little shits,” said Phoebe. She pushed herself to her feet. “Ms. Hammy, do you know if they’re some kind of Dark blend?”

“I ‘ave no idea,” said Hammy. She was standing and had a hand hovering over one of her Pokéballs, but her eyes were on Phoebe.

“Okay.”

Phoebe ran forward to get closer to the coal pile. The Krampus growled as Phoebe found that a Krampling had jumped out towards her. She attempted to dodge the raspberry-blowing creature by swerving away, but its head still clipped her arm. She had to stop to keep her balance. She groaned and reached for one of her Pokéballs.

“Orion,” she said as she released her Sneasel. “Can you chase these things for a bit?”
The fur-covered Pokémon looked at his first opponent, then jumped forward to Scratch it. Orion managed to get its side. The Skidoo just laughed.

“Finally, something to play with,” said the coal-covered Pokémon. It reared and jumped towards Orion, butting its head into Orion’s right shoulder.

Orion groaned and scampered to Phoebe. She had sent out Tunc and Opal. The Sandshrew and Shellos were on top of the coal pile. Both were shivering, but Tunc was digging at the pile, and Opal was shoveling coal to the side with her face.

“Careful, it might get colder later,” she called softly as the two dug their way into the coal pile.

“The attack hurt, can I help them instead?” whined Orion.

“Hey, I’ll get North and maybe Y-“

She was cut off by a Krampling ramming into her. It was the one that was on the top of the pile, and it had knocked her into a sitting position a couple of feet from the pile. The one that had fought Orion grabbed Phoebe’s bag in its mouth and tried to pull it away, but Phoebe held on to it.
“No, this has Lucida’s Pokeball!” cried Phoebe as she tried to wrestle the bag away. “Orion, go get it.”

Orion rubbed his shoulder, then hopped to Phoebe’s side and wrapped both of his arms around the bag and bumped his nose against the Pokéballs at Phoebe’s side. Phoebe groaned a bit. He must have hit his, Tunc, or Opal’s first, but the second try released Miriel.

The Budew shivered then widened her eyes. “What? Are we being dragged to the Distortion place?” she asked.

“Not us,” Orion returned his attention to the bag. “But Phoebe said that Lucida’s in here. Get the others out!”

“Most of the bad stuff people think she did weren’t her fault!” cried Miriel. She used her Absorb attack and a green energy pulled some of the Krampling’s energy into the Budew.

The Krampling grinned and let go. “Oh?” it asked. Its red tongue darted out towards Miriel, and she stumbled backwards. “How do you know?” It ignored the bag that Phoebe hastily dragged back to her side.

“Back off!” yelled Miriel. She used Absorb again, but the Krampling jumped towards the pile. A metal covered arm reached out and grabbed its leg. Tunc surfaced from the coal pile and tried to pull the Skidoo back. Miriel grinned and turned around, only to notice that Phoebe had just sent out Yew. Miriel’s face fell.

“It probably ran because you’re fiercer than you look,” said Yew. The two Grass-types smiled at each other.

“Tunc and Opal are in the pile,” Phoebe said to Yew. “Keep a look out and try to figure out where these stupid shits are with your Psychic-thing, also hold this.” Phoebe handed her bag to the Mega-Abomasnow. Yew backed up, and Miriel and Orion assumed it was something in the command or mind reading.

“Good job you two,” said Phoebe. She picked up Miriel and placed the Budew in her hood. “You’re my eyes, girl.” Phoebe pointed at her own eyes. Miriel nodded.

In the meantime, Tunc had been knocked out of the pile by a second Krampling. He climbed up and began taking huge chunks out of the pile near one of the Krampling’s feet.

“Opal!” he called. “Help me out!”

The Shellos resurfaced and with a slapping motion knocked coal dust into the face of a nearby Krampling. It bleated in frustration then burrowed back into the pile.

“Orion, do you want to go rest with Yew or help at the pile?” asked Phoebe. She was pointing and miming sleeping and digging as she talked.

Orion rubbed the shoulder that the Krampling hit, then glanced back at Yew, before deciding to shovel coal out of the pile.

North landed on the coal pile and hopped towards one of the Kramplings, knocking coal all over as he jumped and tackled the spot where one had been. More coal was sent flying.

“Looking good,” Phoebe said. She shoved one arm into the pile and began digging. “Miriel, tap my cheek once if someone else is in trouble, twice if I need to look out.” Once she finished the accompanying gestures she plunged the other arm in. The pile was shrinking a bit as the Pokémon and their trainer tossed coal aside as they worked.
