Blunt Origin:
This metallic Cosmic was, in truth, born on Earth. His parents - a pair of mixed color beings who had both been drawn to the area for unknown reasons - mated and bore him at the innermost edge of the atmosphere. He was not born in space, but rather, just below the ozone layer that envelops the planet to sustain life.

One thing unique about the situation of his birth and time as a juvenile was that he was abandoned by his parents within the first two years. Not due to lack of affection, but because it was confirmed that the planet was far safer for the young Cosmic than the depths of space. The technology of Earth was not advanced enough to do his natural state any form of harm. There was an adequate energy supply thanks to the sun. Plenty of material to absorb and recycle - both on and around the planet.

They adults determined that he was completely safe, and saw no reason to remain as his guardians when there was no foreseeable danger present. The juvenile remained for unknown reasons, and grew into adulthood. Having taken to absorbing the negative charge of atoms, the otherwise genderless being became a male. Albeit, has likely shifted between sexual biology at least twice - once to become female, and again to revert to male form. Be it out of boredom or desire to become something new, the Cosmic took to absorbing metal shortly after their parents vacated the planet.

The most likely means of acquiring these metals being scrapyards or junkyards. They likely spent a fair amount of time in or around places where large quantities of abandoned or unwanted metals were kept. There is no doubt that they were able to absorb these metals without restraint. As such, they were more than likely able to convert their biology to that of a Metallic Cosmic prior to reaching adulthood. The abundance of metal would have made this a completely realistic situation.

The ability to also use emotions as an energy source may of made it easier for them to become male. The most likely scenario being that they took to using the negative aspects of human or animal emotions to give his cells a negative charge. This may have resulted in them reaching maturity in fifty years or less.

Short Story/Stories:

These objects were easy enough to find. The carbon based life of this planet took to using these mobile scraps of metal and rubber as a means of transportation. When the metal lost its ability to do as they wanted it to, then he would be there to claim the abandoned material. For reasons that he had yet to understand, he had developed an affection for these rejected items. The rust would add flavor, which he sometimes craved. That might be what made the red riplets of his coloration stand out, given that the majority of his body seemed to be of colder shading.

He so enjoyed when they would compress the rejected scraps of steel into dense cubes. Their behavior made it so much easier for him to envelop and absorb the desired substances. Often times they stripped his mass additions of the material that he disliked. The rubber and the plastic, and other such aspects of these metallic snacks. He much preferred to absorb the cubes. There was less work for him in terms of rejecting what he didn't want as part of his body. Honestly, there was little point in his doing this, when it came down to schematics.

There were no females in the area for him to mate with. He was not in any need of the excess mass. At this point, he would absorb the metal only to compress it into specific, or undefined, shapes. He often expelled and polished these new sculptures only to abandon them in places where they could be found. Humans seemed fond of these polished pieces of rejected scrap. Maybe that was a good enough reason to continue with this idle mean of passing the time. He had a lot of it, given his lack of realistic mortality.
