Total group) Flock - a large number of individuals that have gathered together to share a living space. This is done for sake of protection and comfort.
Small unit) Unit - a small number of individuals (less than 20) that travel together while in search of food.

Territoriality Level:
Other members of the species) Low
Rival predator species) Moderate

Typical Behavior: The Sky-Leech is a nocturnal creature, which is typically active between the hours of eight (8) o'clock at night, and six (6) o'clock in the morning. During these hours of activity, this species will be out and about in search of food. As a Hematophagous, or blood drinking species, the Sky-Leech typically goes after larger animals in hopes of dining on its preferred meal. As such, they roam the skies in small numbers while hunting, and will unanimously target large animals. As such, deer, bears, cattle, and other such animals have fallen victim to their ravenous hunger. Large eyes help them to see all that lies in their path, but much like bats, they rely heavily on sonar detection to help them while they travel

Large ears are their means of detecting sound, and nostrils are used to help an individual determine friend from food. Upon finding ideal prey, the small group will circle overhead, and then attack. All members will dive on one side, knocking large prey over from the combined force of impact. From there, they grip their target with their powerful toes, which can provide enough grip to crush the wind-pipe, and damage bone. Their tails are also put to use in clinging to and restraining prey. Once a firm grip is established, an individual will bite down on the nearest artery, and use their tongue to lap up as much blood as they can get. They will go so far as to shove their tongue directly into the wound, which ensures that they can syphon as much fresh blood as possible while eating.

Limited number of arteries mean that as many as four Sky-Leechs will be drinking from the same area at once. In the long run, the number of feeding dragons, paired with their capability of downing up to a gallon of blood at once, almost always ensures that prey will die. Once finished eating, the unit will return to the established resting place to digest their food. Depending on the size of the meal, a Sky-Leech will only need to hunt once every three (3) to seven (7) days. They will devour the flesh and fluids of fruits between these massive, bloody meals. Once an individual has returned to the cave, behavior is dependant entirely on the age and gender. Males - young or old - will return to their resting place in order to sleep.

Females who have young to care for will spend a few hours looking after them, before settling down to rest as well. Mothers will regurgitate a portion of consumed food in order to feed their young. This species does not produce anything akin to milk - mammaries are non existent in this breed. As such, young are fed blood and fruit juices from the moment that they are born. This is the process of life until the young are old enough to fly and fend for themselves. Females who are not caring for young will simply rest upon returning to their claimed area. Brawls are virtually non-existent with this species. Highly social, they cooperate with one another, and will rescue any lost or abandoned individuals. Any fights are short lived, and meant to establish ownership over a sleeping space.

Body Description: The Sky-Leech is a small dragon in terms of weight and height, but moderate in terms of wing-span and length. This breed is dubbed as a Wyvern in terms of overall body structure. Front limbs are specifically modified to act as wings, but can be used as a means of climbing, or crawling along the ground. Each wing sports a thumb, along with three elongated fingers. The arm is short by comparison to these fingers. A network of complex tendons support every bone and muscle, ensuring that the joints can bend in multiple directions while enduring the strain that is associated with fighting. Hind limbs are also designed specifically to aid with flight, but play an essential role when it comes to crawling on the ground, climbing, or clinging to objects.

Each hind limb sports three toes, which harbor multiple ball-joints, allowing for powerful grip and mobility. These three toes form a 'Y'. The tail is roughly the one and a half times the length as the body, and is also supported by multiple tendons and ball-joints. The end of the wing harbors bone extensions, which support a specialized webbing that helps this dragon glide for extended periods of time. The Sky-Leech has a large head with a short muzzle. The teeth are large and sharp, designed for cutting and tearing at tissue. The tongue is long and thick, and sports thousands of tiny barbs, which help it deat and drink. Large eyes provide keen vision, and large ears and nostrils help to locate potential prey. Coloration is determined entirely by subspecies.

The most common species of Sky-Leech, known as the "Speckled Sky-Leech", sports brown skin, which is decorated with black freckles. The flight skin on this particular species is bright red, with the outermost edges being bright orange. The less common species harbors black flight skin that is blue at the outermost edge. The body itself is red, and holds orange stripes along the back. This breed is deemed as the "Striped Sky-Leech". The final, and rarest of these breeds, is referred to as the "Moon-marked Sky-Leech". This rare species has a black body, adorned with a white crescent marking on the forehead, and a large white spot on the back. The flight skin is off-white, and reflects light, making it appear to glow. Exotic colorations for this species is dependant on subspecies.

Correct Terms:
Male) Todd
Female) Vixen
Offspring) Kit

Gender Ratio:
Male) Fifty percent (50%) population estimate
Female) Fifty percent (50%) population estimate

Gender Differences: There are no obvious differences between male and female individuals. They are overall of similar size, and weight - the only difference being that females gain extra pounds while pregnant. Coloration is also the same among both sexes.

Age of Sexual Maturity:
Male) Three (3) years of age
Female) Seven (7) years of age

Breeding Season: Late Fall

Mate Type: Monogamous

Seasonal/Lifelong: Seasonal

Breeding information: The Sky-Leech is fairly simple when it comes to breeding. There are no special conditions. Females will pick and willing male and mate with them, and that ends their relationship. Breeding season starts during the final month of Fall, and ends come the start of Winter. Given that females bear live young that are perfectly capable of hiding in cavern ledges or hanging from cavern walls/tree branches, there is no need for a nest to be built. Labor lasts less than three hours typically, because births are quick. Placenta are passed immediately, having been connected to the umbilical chord. The mother will eat these unneeded bundles of tissue in order to regain energy lost during labor. She will birth her pups on the ground, then return to her resting place.

Newborns are expected to follow - and it is during this stage that most infant deaths occur. A mother will refuse to care for deformed or unfit young. As such, those who cannot climb to her embrace, are left to die. Often times, a predator will appear to devour these unprotected young. The mothers will attempt to chace a threat away, but will otherwise do nothing. Those caught by a predator will be consumed. Those sturdy offspring who can make it to their mother will be rewarded with constant attention and an abundance of food. Worth compensation for the effort that will have been put into their first few hours of survival. Those who don't make the climb will essentially freeze to death due to lack of warmth.

Mothers will continuously look after their surviving offspring for the following six months. After that, their wings will have developed enough to ensure flight. Infants are born with soft boned wings which are unfit for flying. As such, the extra six months of care are what it takes to develop enough to fend for themselves. Once old enough to fly, their mother will stop caring for them. Hunger drives the six-month olds to attempt flight. This is when extra deaths will take place. Those who fail to catch air, will fall and break their wings. Crippled, they stand high chance of dying if not rescued by other members of the flock.

Egg Laying/Live Birth Species: Live Birth

Typical Egg/Offspring count: Two (2) individual - max of two (2)

Incubation/Gestation length: Four (4) months

Survival Rate: Forty-eight percent (48%)

Parental Information: Mothers give birth to up to two (2) young at a time. Births take place on the ground, and happen quickly. Shortly after passing their offspring, females devour the umbilical chord and placenta, and then climb back into their resting place. Young must climb up to fifteen (15) feet in order to earn her love. Thanks to flimsy wings and disorientation, it takes a lot of effort to make it. Deformed or weak young will evidentially die as a result of their inability to make it to their mothers side. The young who make it to their mother will be cared for her without delay. She will provide them with much needed body heat, food, and affection. This carries on for up to six and a half months. Mothers care for young only until they are old enough to fly.

Once that age is reached, she will refuse to feed them. As such, hunger drives young to their first flight attempt. Those who manage to fly will go on their first successful hunt, and as such, are likely to survive to adulthood. Males play no part in caring for the young.

Dietary type:
Primary)Sanguivore
Secondary)Frugivore

Typical Eating Habits: As far as diet goes, the Sky-Leech feeds mostly on blood. The fluid is a source of protein that the dragon needs to thrive. Drinking up to a gallon at once, this species targest large animals in order to eat. Bears, moose, elk, deer, cattle, and even other dragons are typically used as prey. In which case, only the exceptionally large dragons will survive these assaults if attacked by multiple Sky-Leeches. Outside of blood dining, this species eats soft fruits in order to obtain essential vitamins and minerals. These fruits include peaches, berries, and citrus.

Bloodlines:
Common Bloodline) Individuals of a Common bloodline sport nothing unique in terms of strength, size, or abilities. As such, the common Sky-Leech, no matter the species, will be fairly easy to deal with. The only real powers of the Sky-Leech come from the voice. Once mature, they can generate a condensed echo of their voice, which contains enough power to deafen a man at close range. Prolonged exposure to these sounds can cause extreme nausea, loss of consciousness, and even brain damage in more severe cases.
Exotic Bloodline) The Exotic bloodline is simply a result of a unique coloration in terms of the species. This appearance will differ depending on the subspecies. An exotic Speckled Sky-Leech will have either a gray body with white spots, a green body with blue spots, or a yellow body with red spots. Flight skin coloration is unchanged. An exotic Striped Sky-Leech will have either a blue body with green stripes, or a violet body with blue stripes. The flight skin will be gray with nearly white outer edges. The exotic Moon-marked Sky-Leech is reversed in color. As such, the body will be white - and will reflect light - while the flight skin will be black, and will have violet outer edges. Aside from unique coloration, an exotic bloodline harbors no unique traits in terms of skill unless they are of a superior genetic as well.
Superior Bloodline) The Superior bloodline among Sky-Leeches results in only one major change. There is no obvious shift in size, strength, or endurance. The change will take place in the potency of their voice. A Superior - dubbed as the Banshee Sky-Leech - can produce a sound wave so powerful that stones can shatter from a close range. As such, a Banshee Sky-Leech is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to a fight.

Fighting Methods: In terms of battles within the species, fights consist of bites. Disputes are short, usually revolving around the desire to claim a resting spot. As such, the first to veild is the one who must vacate the area. When it comes to predators, individuals are prone to biting the enemy, beating them with their wings and tail, and trying to wound them by using their hind legs to crush soft areas. Fights are rarely to the death.

Diurnal/Nocturnal: Nocturnal

Home Type: Cavern/Tree

Sleeping Habits: As a nocturnal species, the Sky-Leech spends a majority of the daylight hours resting in caverns or in treetops. Up to fourteen (14) hours of the day are spent sleeping. This breed can rest either hanging upside-down, or lying on its stomach. Due to how many can cramp into one space, there is little need to post lookouts. Come danger, the first panicked - or pained - cry, is all of the alert that the flock will need to know that it is time to flee. The Sky-Leech can hang upsidedown by wrapping it's tail around tree branches, or clinging to stone ledges.

Known Health Issues: Prone to vitamin deficiency; Easily crippled if wings or tail are damaged; Issues with body temperature regulation result in hypothermia or hyperthermia, which can be fatal.

I'm pretty sure I'm part time. But McDonald's is known to try and force in as much work as possible without hitting that 40 hour mark.
