I can see the way you hurt inside.
You feel alone, you are afraid.
You can tell me otherwise but I know-
you suffer inside. I can hear you crying.
The sound of sobs ring loud and clear to me-
even if I cannot see them, I know they are there.
There is a sorrow etched deep into your soul-
your spirit cries out endlessly for help.
Yet still, you fear the comfort more than the pain.
You’ve known sorrows few can comprehend,
and agony I know I could never describe.
The scars you bear inside and out run deep.
Please, don’t push me away-
let me tend those long healed wounds.
Because I know, I know,
that a wound hurts long after its closed.
Scars hurt just as much,
if not more, than the injuries that caused them.
Knowing that, I can clearly see your hurting.
Be it on the outside or within, I don’t care.
Let me place my hands upon those marks,
be them etched into your skin or marked inside your soul.
Let me touch those ancient injuries and try to numb the pain.
Let me at least try, to lessen your agony.
I know you are afraid, and that you don’t wish to be hurt again-
but you wounds will never be able to stop hurting,
if you don’t let someone near enough to your heart,
to mend those age old injuries.
The risks on both sides are great,
and I can understand why you are so unwilling to trust.
But please, don’t push me away.
Let me in, I want to help you.
Even if I can only make you smile for a moment,
even if I can only serve as a shoulder for you to cry upon.
Let me in, even if its just enough to let me show you,
just how much I’ve truly come to care for you.
Don’t push me away, don’t leave me to cry for you alone.
Your fear of letting me close is its own agony.
Please, open your heart enough- at least try to let me in.
Please, just let me in.
