Curiously, a young child approached the run down looking tents of a seemingly abandoned carnival. She peeked into each one, finding nothing aside from trash. The toys hanging from the shelves were all grimy, and torn. The stands were splintery, and missing chunks of their frames. No one could be seen, aside from her- and she was a curious little bugger. Her parents had warned her not to wander to far from the camp site, but she'd done just that, and wound up getting lost. She had no idea how she managed to find her way here, to an old, abandoned carnival- but she'd found the ancient treasure nonetheless. Yes, treasure- to her at least. So many places to explore, so many odd things to see- if she found anything worth keeping, it was hers to take. No rules to follow, no adults to scold her for climbing on things- it was every child's dream. She made sure to take advantage of her new found freedom. For hours she wandered the carnival, plucking toys from the shelves to see if any were worth taking home with her. She played any game that caught her interest, and tried to get the rides working- but to no avail. Before long though, she found herself feeling hungry.
She checked her pockets, to find that she had a half a granola bar and a couple pieces of candy. She ate them, but that wasn't enough food to satisfy her hunger. From there, her fun adventure became a search for food. She checked every stand, every attraction- the rides, the games. She never found anything remotely edible. Within an hour of her search, she'd began to cry- she was alone, hungry, and scared. She had no idea if or how her parents were going to find her. Fear quickly built in her system, and before long she found a place on the filthy ground, and she began to cry. She sat and pulled her knees to her chest, and she hid her face while she bawled. However, her tears quickly died when the sound of music filled her ears. A familiar song- pop goes the weasel- was being sang alongside music she'd never heard before. She could tell, the music was from only one instrument- but she had no idea what it was. Curious as ever, she stifled her tears and stood up, before she set out to find the source of the song. Her search, led her to a large tent in the center of the carnival. Like all the other tents, it was black and white, but it didn't appear to be as run down. If anything, it seemed to be new- not brand new, but new.
She clearly heard the music, and a male voice coming from inside the tent. Without any thought on the matter, aside from the possibility of being taken back to her parents and fed- she stepped inside the tend. Her eyes widened with wonder at the sight before her. The ground inside the tent was clean- the rings of seats surrounding a stage in the middle appeared to be in prime condition. All fear fled her mind as she stepped further into the tents. She quickly spotted a man dressing in black and white- he was tall, and had long arms that seemed to defy the laws of nature. He had a striped cone for a nose, and stripy socks and sleeves. He wore suspenders, and had black and white feathers on his shoulders. His skin seemed to be painted white, save for his fingers which were black. There were white bandages around his hands and abdomen- but being a little girl, she viewed them only as part of his wonderful costume. She stared in awe at him as he tapped his feet to the rhythm of the music- the music he played on the strange instrument he held in his arms. A long contraption that seemed to fold into itself like a paper fan- he made the music by stretching it out then pushing its ends back together.
Buttons lined one of the sides, and he pushed them skillfully as he played. His voice was deep, and full of joy as he sang- to her, he seemed to be completely lost in the song. Hard to believe that singing Pop goes the weasel- a silly little melody for children- gave him such joy. Entranced by his performance, she back into a seat nearest to her and kept her eyes glued on him as he played. He didn't even seem aware of her presence- he was too lost in the song. In fact, he was singing with his eyes closed. For hours on end he played- the light outside the tent began to fade away. He repeated the song relentlessly, but the joy in his voice seemed to keep her from ever losing interest in listening. By the time he finished his singing, the sun had set- it was completely dark outside. The only light, seemed to be coming from within the tent- but there were no lights to be seen. Only after he finished singing, did he open his eyes and turn to look at her. Her eyes widened in surprise when he turned and offered her an elegant bow, and she was unable to do more than clap her hands excitedly at him. A light chuckle passed his lips as he looked at her, and after a moment he approached her with a friendly smile.
"Why, hello there little one~! I see you enjoyed my song~" He said with a laugh as he held a hand out to her, and she took it gladly. He gripped her small hand tightly, to the point that it made her flinch- but she was to lost in the aftermath of his singing to view it as threat. Instead, she giggled and bounced a bit as she rose from her seat to tug on his hand some. She begged him to sing for her more, and he laughed again.
"Oh, but I just finished~ I'll sing more in a little while~... What's your name, my dear child~? And do speak up, its hard to hear your sweet little voice when my ears are way, up here~" He chimed as he pulled her towards him. He helped her onto the stage and listened closely while she told him her name. He clapped his hands and laughed loudly as he led her towards a table he had set up at the far end of the stage.
"Oh~! Rebecca~! That's such a pretty name~... Oh, speak up child your voice is so small~ Hmm~? What was that~?... Oh! What's MY name~?" He chuckled as he put a hand on the table, only to pull a stool out from underneath it with his foot. He watched eagerly as Rebecca climbed atop the table for him when he motioned for her to do so. Once she was seated and comfortable, he extended his arms in the air and threw confetti excitedly.
"Why, I'm the one and only, Laughing Jack~! Friend to all, big or small~! And I must say, Rebecca dear, that I've been needed to find some more friends~ Y'see, all of my other friends left me. They just walked out on poor old Laughing Jack..." He said in a seemingly sad voice as he looked at her, only to catch the ever familiar sound of her little stomach rumbling. He smiled and offered her a few pieces of candy to quiet down her gut, if only for a moment. She accepted and ate the treats happily, while telling him that she could be his friend. A deviant look appeared in his eye, and his smile widened as he looked at her. She noticed then, that his teeth were strangely sharp. Being the curious child that she was, she asked him about his chompers. He laughed and gave her a pat on the head.
"Oh, never you mind that child~ We've much to do~! Y'see, not just anyone can be my friend~ We have to play a game first~" He cooed as he pulled a blindfold out of his pocket, and held it up to her.
"Now, for the rules~ I'm going to have you guess everything I put in your hand~ If you guess right, you get a point. If you guess wrong, you lose a point~ I'll have you feel ten things, and if you can guess five of them correctly, you win the game~ If not, you lose~ If you win, you get to be my friend~! If you lose... Well, we'll come to that later~" He chimed as he wrapped the blindfold around her head, despite her slight protest of thinking the game wouldn't be fun. He chuckled again and gave her head a quick pat.
"Oh, nonsense child~! How can you know if the game isn't fun, when you've never played it before~?... That's the spirit~! Now, tell me what this is~" He said with a laugh as he placed a piece of candy in her hand. She immediately guessed it right.
"Correct~! That's one point for you~! See~? I told you the game was fun~!" He said as he gave her a pat on the back. Then, he moved on- and the following items were, far from pleasant. After giving her the candy, he put a dead rat in her hands. She guessed it as a teddybear, and she lost her point. After the rat, came a dried out eyeball. She guessed it as a date, and he moved on. Each time she guessed wrong, he told her what she was holding and he watched as her face paled. She wasn't having fun, but he sure was. After the eye, came a tongue- a fresh, bloody tongue. She screamed and flailed when she found out what it was- she'd guessed it as a slug. Every item became worse as he handed it to her. Tongue to liver, liver to stomach. Stomach to heart, heart to intestines. After intestines, she was handed the severed head of a child- which resulted in her vomiting, and trembling in fear. By that point, she'd been begging him to take the blindfold off, but he refused.
"Now, hush up child~ You've already guessed on nine of them~! We've just one one last thing~ Then it'll all be over and you'll have lost the game~!" He said with a laugh as he took her hand in his. He parted the bandages on his abdomen, and pushed her hand past them- her little arm when about a third of the way inside him with ease. She trembled and bawled, but felt around to try and guess what she was touching. What she came up with, was a bowl of candy- because she clearly felt candy. A loud, demented laugh left him as he suddenly tore the blindfold from her face- and he watched with amusement as she stared in horror at where her hand was.
"Wong again sweetie~!" He said with a dark laugh as he watched her start to struggle in his grasp. That' proved to be a fatal move. The bandages around his abdomen seemed to come to life- they coiled around her arm like snakes, and pulled her closer. She continued to scream and thrash- the sound of a bone snapping met her ears. Pain jolted through her system, and she suddenly fell backwards- what was left of her arm bled freely and she writhed in pain. From the corner of her eye, she saw the bandages seem so suck her severed arm inside him. A loud, crunching noise seemed to come from his body, before he suddenly detached his jaw to vomit her limb as a bloody mush- it looked like hamburger. Blood dripped from his chin as he smiled at her- it was the grin of a murderer.
"You lose~" He cackled as he raised his arms, his fingers suddenly growing into blades as he loomed over her. Before she had the chance to react, he attacked. He tore into the skin of her abdomen. He ripped her free of skin, and exposed the tender muscle underneath to the bite of the air. Her organs were out in the open- she couldn't move, the pain was unbearable. She couldn't even blink- her eyelids had been removed, along with her cheeks, when he ripped off her skin. Her fingers and toes were stripped down to the bone. The sight- to any normal person- would have been horrific. To Laughing Jack though, it was a work of art.
"Comfortable child~?.. Now, I've told you time and time again, speak up when you're talking to me~!" He cackled as he spoke to the mutilated girl, who was unable to do more than make pained sounds as she stared up at him through bloodsoaked eyes. A slight sigh passed his lips when he realized he wouldn't be getting her to speak to him- then he smiled cheerfully and pried her jaws apart. Seeing as she wouldn't be needing her tongue anymore, he decided to get rid of it- no use letting her keep anything worthless. With that, he dug his nails into the tender muscle, and yanked. Sadly, instead of pulling it out, he ripped it apart inside her- her single tongue, became four. He frowned a bit and shrugged.
"Oh poo, that's no fun! Now I need to find something else to play with!" He growled, completely ignoring the blood that poured out of Rebecca's mouth- her breathing began to gurgle as she started to drown in her own blood. He'd be having none of that though- instead, he decided to block her throat.
"You don't get to die until I say so, you ungrateful little brat! You stay here and play with me until I decide you can go!!" He suddenly roared as he reached into his abdomen to pull out a fistful of blood coated candies- it was from her arm being ground up inside him earlier. In a flash, he savagely shoved the candies into her mouth- he forced them down her throat.
"Here! You like candy so much, then eat it! Eat all of it and be grateful that I'm so willing to share!" He snarled as he continued to stuff her mouth with candy. He violently yanked more candy from himself, the shoved it inside her mouth. Again and again he stuffed candy down her throat, the brutality of his actions making him rip her teeth out- he eventually broke her jaw clean off with how violent he'd become. Even so, he continued to force candy into her. Her stomach bulged as it filled with candy, until it eventually burst. The treats flooded her insides and pooled out of her, because he had no intention of stopping. He blindly shoved more and more candy into her throat, having not realized that he'd long since overstuffed her. By means of a sick, twisted miracle she was still alive as he did this- the candy applied enough pressure to stop her bleeding. How it didn't crush her heart though, was a mystery. After what seemed like hours, he calmed down and realized how much candy he'd forced into her- it had formed a bit of a mountain in her chest and abdomen. An angry growl left him as he eyed her, rage triggering memories flooding his system as he looked at her.
"Your just like them... Just like ALL the other kids to ever make friends with me! You hate my games, and abandon me without another thought! WORTHLESS PIGS! ALL of you!!!" He roared as he glared into her bleeding, terror filled eyes. His body shook a bit as anger filled him, before he suddenly shouted angrily. He lunged at her defenseless frame- his claws tore into her. Muscles were ripped clean off of limbs. Organs were torn out, and then shoved down her throat to push out what was left of the candy. He gouged out her eyes, snapped her bones to pieces. He ripped out her teeth, and eventually crushed her skull when he decided he couldn't look at her disgusting face a moment longer. Panting angrily, he glared at the mutilated remnants of her corpse. His whole body shook with rage, but also, with fear. With the anger inducing memories, came all the painful ones. Frantically, he darted his head around to search for something, anything he could use to take his mind of his thoughts. He spotted his instrument- his accordion. Without another thought, he rushed over to the instrument, and picked it up. Within seconds, he'd started to play his favorite song, "Pop goes the weasel". Almost immediately, he began to calm down. He stopped shaking, his voice lost its rage and fell to a somewhat bittersweet tone as he let the music wash the memories back into the darkest corners of his mind. As he sang, rats flooded the tent to dine on the fresh corpse he'd left to rot, and he payed them no mind. He was to lost in the music, to care about anything more than the song.
For the time being, music, was his only real friend... Nothing, could kill it.

I know the feeling of only having music. I use it for the same reason to push shit back. people become attached to music because when everyone left them music was the only thing that stayed.

It really is. Which is why it really pisses me off when haters go onto music videos just to talk shit about the band. I wish they'd glue their lips shut, take a hike, and let the fans experience true bliss through chords and arpeggios.

Same.
Music is music. A means of expressing and feeling emotions.
Don't like the song? Its not speaking to you the way it speaks to others - so screw off.
