Matta x Maneki story, for my boyfriend and girlfriend. Happy Valentines day loves~

Chuckling, the fork tailed demon looked over the room he'd just finished setting up. Scented candles, lit, and spreading a light rosy smell throughout the room. Check. A dark red silk cloth draped over the table. Check. All the dishes were in the proper place, and the food was finished cooking and sitting in the oven to keep warm. The only light in the room came from the candles. He'd covered the few windows with the same type of cloth he'd laid out on the table. Red and pink rose petals were spread throughout the room, adding to the ambiance of the setting. He was far from romantic most of the year, but this holiday he went all out. He always did. Content with the state of the dining room, he headed to the kitchen to quickly check up on all the food.

First he peeked into the oven. Two roasted pheasants, along with roasted vegetables. Browned lightly from the butter and flavored with lemon, garlic, and pepper. The smell was wonderful, and he knew the taste would be just the same. The oven was warm, but not hot enough to do more than keep the food from getting cold. He put a bowl of hot water in the bottom of the oven so the steam would keep everything from drying out. Once content with the state of the hot food, he moved elsewhere to check on what was left. He checked inside the fridge. Two slim parfait glasses held chocolate mousse and whipped cream. He'd prepared it to the best of his capability. The flavor was a little weak, but he didn't have time to redo it.

Below the chocolate treat was a bowl of strawberries. He'd glazed them with honey and dipped in them in granola. A creative take on the fruit, if he had to say so himself. Content with the state of his homemade sweets, he closed the fridge and walked to the counter to check up on the last surprise. A stuffed cat toy, and around its neck was a silver chain. On that chain, were a pair of matching rings. Promise rings, to be specific. He and his lover had been a pair for quite some time, but he decided it was high time he made things official between them. With luck, she'd feel the same way. A smile spread across his features when he heard the door open, and he rushed to the main room to greet his love.

He didn't want her to see her surprise before he could show it off. He quickly found her, and snuck up behind her while her back was turned to him. She was busy taking off her coat- the weather had been poor, so she was dressed to deal with the rain. Once her jacket was off, he wrapped his arms around her from behind and smirked at the little squeak that passed her lips. Smiling happily, he kissed her cheek and chuckled, before allowing her to turn around and hug him. He hugged her back happily, then moved to whisper in her ear. A faint blush crossed her cheeks, and she giggled as she closed her eyes to do as was instructed. With that, he covered her eyes with one hand and proceeded to lead her towards the dining room.

He smirked upon hearing her comment on him being silly, then watched intently for her reaction when he uncovered her eyes. At first she was surprised, then her eyes watered and she smiled at the sight of everything he'd gotten set up. He nearly fell over when she suddenly jumped up to wrap her arms around his neck, but he happily kissed her back when she pressed her lips against his. After that, he chuckled and politely pulled out her chair so that she could sit down, then he headed to the kitchen to grab the food he'd prepared. As it was, he looked forward to the end of the night, when he'd be showing her the stuffed cat, and the rings it wore. Till then, he just had to hope his cooking was to her liking~

He chuckled as she pressed the last of the strawberries against his lips, before he playfully bit it in half. She in turn finished off the granola coated treat, offering a satisfied smile as she chewed on it. He smirked, and tapped her nose playfully and told her to stay put. Now that the food was all gone, he had one last surprise to show off. The one he'd been looking forward to for the last couple of hours. She giggled and nodded, before watching as he darted into the kitchen. He quickly retrieved the stuffed cat, and hid it behind his back as he made his way back into the dining room. She eyed him curiously, a soft smile on his face as he approached her. Smiling, he pulled the toy out from behind him to hand it too her.

She looked at him, confused as she accepted the stuffed cat and looked at it. He watched as her eyes suddenly widened at the sight of the rings, and tears welled in her as he fell to one knee. Smiling, he slipped the necklace off the toy, before he removed the rings. Her lip quivered as she fought the urge to cry, and she watched as he gently grasped her hand. He slipped a ring onto her finger, before slipping the other onto his own hand. Immediately after, she literally tackled him to the floor to shower him in affectionate kisses. He laughed and hugged her tightly, taking her reaction as a yes. Engaged on Valentines day, talk about the most romantic marriage proposal ever~
