Description Sculpture assignment, casting of my body using alginate, hydrocal and hydrostone.
Dimensions: 33 x 15 inches, about 3 inches in depth.

I often feel that I am trying to bridge the gap between who I thought I would become, and who I have turned out to be, consistently fighting the social idea of what I represent, as opposed to who I know I am. I am always one person running from the other. I will always be reaching for something that I cannot quite achieve; trying to furtively make contact with ideals I do not believe I correspond to.

My goal with this piece was to create a work of art not for the grade or the rush of daily projects, but to recreate a piece of myself, to view as an outsider, and to perhaps become someone anonymous, new, analyzing and critiquing the one incapable of moving past the plaster. My back has housed many problems for me in my life thus far, and my thin, almost skeletal spine represents much this.

To somehow stop merely brushing my fingertips past what I know would bring composure would be a sincere achievement, but I am not there. It is not my inability to reach, but my reluctance to pull myself closer to contact. I may get there, to a place of unity, on my own accord, but I am stuck, I am two, I am not willing yet; happiness is a choice.

I have scoliosis as well, its a mild case though so it doesn't cause too many problems. Hope you deal with it okay : )

It's probably the cause of spinal stinosis in my family. My mom has had two surgeries and my aunts have had the same problems. Oddly enough it's only the girls in the family.

I am not going to let it get that bad for me. My back does hurt sometimes, and when I was pregnant there were times when it hurt so bad I could barely move... but It's not so bad now.
