Description
Made forI should make a caveat for step 5. There are cartoon styles that depict leaves purely as blobby leaf masses. I only say not to do it in the tutorial because the style I use strives for detail, with whatever elements of realism I can throw at it.

Nicely done! Those parallel lines are called hatching, cousin to cross-hatching.

Thank you for sharing this tutorial -- it would seem feasible for non-tablet users ( mouse-users ) too

Definitely going to try this out. Backgrounds are my nemesis, and anything I can find to help make them a little less painful is a great help.

OMG SPUD, congrats on the DD!
I hoped you'd get it, so when I saw it just now I got so happy. Great job.
By the way, I paint trees in a bit of a similiar way, so highfive!

Thank you very much for sharing the tutorial. It's interesting to see how it would be done by someone who goes for realism.

Wohhoo thanks spud! You're golden <3
I actually tried this out as soon as I saw it, it's pretty messy and I didn't have time to clean in up, because I was in hurry but this was truly helpful

I believe the term for the parallel lines is "Hatching". Great tutorial btw, very helpful!

Thanks! Yeah at the time I thought it might've been hatching but for some reason I assumed it only applied to when you criss cross them.
