Description Got it ready for this year's San Diego Comic Con! (I'm...not smart. =3=; This costume and summer do not mix.)

There's still some small things to do--like hem the pants (which you don't see) and tweak the sleeve twine things.

Pattern used and altered for the top and pants - McCall's 3789

All fabric was found in the Los Angeles fashion district (akskfldkla my dad was awesome and randomly decided to buy me like...all of it. I need to take him fabric shopping with me more often! 8DD)

I wanted this costume to be all about texture since there is so much of it in Hiccup's clothes. The shirt is upholstery fabric. .___.; I had to wash it to make it easier to work with. Luuuckily that worked.
The costume itself was fairly easy. I was dumb and made a mistake on the pants but I managed to fix it. After all this time, I still hate making pants...
The brown fur SHEDS LIKE CRAZY and when I was cutting it I inhaled so much fur. I know how cats must feel when they get a hairball. Seriously! It was...nasty.

This cosplay is amazing! would you consider making another like a commission? i want to dress up as Hiccup for a conΒ (when he has his fake leg, gotta make use of being an amputee for something dont i? why notΒ cosplay asΒ my favourite character who just happens to be an amputee tooΒ )Β but i cant find a cosplay anywhere D: πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Hey there!
I don't generally take commissions though sometimes I may consider doing so, especially for a costume I have done before. xDΒ
Would you want the fur vest part too or just the shirt, pants and sash? I'm trying to think about pricing if I were to do this.Β

Thanks so much for replying especially so quick! :3 Yea i'd need the vest too i would make the costume myself but i'm horrible at sewing etc and your costume was just so cool that i had to askΒ  i might be okay pants wiseΒ because iΒ MIGHT be able to get a pair from a storeΒ and i'd have to change the pants about because of the leg (i'm asking the hospital about making it for me who knew one could benifit from getting their leg chopped off xD)

Yeah no problem!
Okay well first off, do you have a Paypal account? Whenever I make/sell something for someone, they pay via Paypal because it's the easiest thing.Β

Secondly, what are your measurements? You can follow this chart and use a measuring tape:Β vinsulalee.deviantart.com/art/…
Or you can use this chart:Β www.google.com/imgres?sa=X&rlz…

Thirdly! As far as cost, it would be cost of materials firstly and then added cost for labor. The added cost for labor is something I haven't figured out yet, especially if you already would be okay pants-wise. That would bring down the cost a bit.Β

I'm pretty sure my sister has a PayPal account (how exactly would the payment shipping etc work out ? also I live in the uk would that be a problem?) if you don't mind I'll have to get someone to do my measurements later today also do you have any idea idea on what the price will be like around __? And I'm definitely ok pants wise my friend has khaki coloured skinny jeans that's she doesn't need anymore (do you think that colour would be okay?)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Spwinkles In reply to ToxicCookieDough [2013-07-30 01:27:17 +0000 UTC]

The fact that you live in the UK is not really a problem but it will make shipping a little more pricey. How much exactly I can't say for sure, I'll need to look into that and see if I can keep it on the cheaper side!
Price-wise, here is the break down I have so far based on material/fabric cost and how much time I'd be working on it.
Fur vest - $35
Green Tunic - $60
Sash - $8
Shipping - ??? (I'll do research.)

For the pants, skinny jeans are perfect since his pants are kinda tight-ish? You might want to go for a darker color than khaki, though!

It's a belt with big snaps on it. You could also make one with velcro.

Hey there i am a terrible seamstress and i was wondering if you had the altered pattern for this and the vest? i am wanting to make this costume for my 3yr old son and have my 3month old little girl be toothless <3 lol we are going to dress her up in black tights, onsie and i am making a hat. if you can let me know i would REALLY appreciate it.

Spwinkles In reply to CynthiaMB88 [2011-09-16 06:04:52 +0000 UTC]

Aw those sound like adorable costume ideas!

Well, the pattern I used is for adults but after a quick google search you can probably use something like this: [link] (Just don't make the front panels as wide, leave some space so you can actually see the green undershirt.) I'm sure you can find that pattern or one like it cheaper in Jo-Ann Fabrics or somewhere else on the internet (try ebay?) but that's where I'd start.

Oh wow, that shirt fabric is perfect! I've been trawling fabric shops for a little while hoping for something that looks right, but I didn't think to look in the upholstery section. Thanks for the tip!

Great job on the overall costume, too. ^_^

Spwinkles In reply to IscahRambles [2011-03-24 00:32:06 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, no problem! Just make sure to wash the fabric once or twice to loosen it up a bit--it makes it easier to work with.

And thanks!

Haha yeah cutting fur is generally NOT a good experience. xD
I didn't have too much trouble for my America jacket, oddly enough.

probably cause there isnt a whole lot of fut that goes into that costume, when compared with the Hiccup one.

Spwinkles In reply to xYaminogamex [2011-03-02 00:04:13 +0000 UTC]

You know, I really don't remember if it had a name. It was one of the smaller ones and had a lot of upholstery fabric. (Which I think is what this is lol) It wasn't TOO far from Michael Levine's but ahh yeah I can't remember specifically.

i love your outfit...i do hve two questions though...
1)where did you get the furvest, and how did you make the sash around hiccup's waist and how did you make string on his wrists

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Spwinkles In reply to CrossAcademyNinja [2010-12-29 22:37:14 +0000 UTC]

Thanks!
I got the fur from one of the stores in the Los Angeles fashion district. (Lots of fabric stores--but you can buy brown fur in many other fabric stores.)
I used a sewing pattern for making the vest but I can't remember the number at the moment.
The sash is just suede that I made into a belt. It's attached in the back by snaps.
The string on the wrists is just that---string. They aren't attached very well so I'll have to fix them.
YYou can either sew it on or even ahhh glue it? xD They were kind of tricky to attach.

Yup I did! The pattern name is in the description---McCall's 3789. (I altered it a little.) I'd also suggest using Butterick 5359 for the fur-vest thing.

Fffffft that's awesome! I can tell how much attention was paid to texture and detail. The upholstery fabric really works as his shirt!

Quiiiiiick question: How long would you say the fur on the vest is? I ask cause I might make my own Hiccup costume for Halloween and your vest is perfect! (Well actually your whole cosplay is BUT ANYWAY.)
