This is my second comic involving Spike and Spyro (click here to see the first ). I made this using Inkscape. The background vectors and some of the Spike vectors were directly traced or slightly modified from My Little Pony Friendship is Magic.

Spyro looks a lot like Figment. I am amazed that Disney did not sue Insomniac Games over that. Both are Purple Dragons and Figment was around 15 Years before Spyro was.

Someone already commented on this, but another purple dragon that could have made a case is Figment from Disney's "Journey into Imagination" ride. He arrived on the scene in 1983. Here's a picture: img1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20…
Actually Figment looks more like Spyro than Spike does. But Figment acts more like Discord in that he's creative and can warp reality to a certain extent. Maybe they're related?
Oh well. Those are the main 3 purple dragons that I know about. Spyro and Figment were part of my childhood and have a place in my heart. And I think Spike is cool too. Let's just all agree purple dragons are awesome!

I also like Chomper the little purple T-Rex from the "Land Before Time" movies and tv series. He actually has a lot in common with Spike, being that they are both fierce creatures who were raised by a kinder, gentler species (green-eaters and ponies vs sharp-tooths and dragons).

Aside from just being small, cute, and purple, they both like to eat bugs, hang out with friends, and act cool and sarcastic at times. In fact, they both had episodes where they went on a journey to find others like themselves, but where as Spike went to learn how to be a dragon, Chomper left to try and teach other sharp-tooths how to be friendly. It didn't really work out for either of them.
You can actually find a lot of similarities between the "Land Before Time" series and MLP:FiM. A group of friends go on awesome adventures together in a world that seems to be bigger than themselves, sometimes having fights or getting into trouble, but always making up in the end and learning a valuable life lesson. Oh, and who could forget the songs.
In my mind, Chomper could be one of Spike's prehistoric ancestors. Dragons and Dino's are cousins so it's possible.
