Description
PsCS2 no ref722-705 BC - Assyrian Bas-relief found in the ruins at Khorsabad during the excavation of the palace of Sargon II (or Saragon II) has been claimed to depict falconry. In fact, it depicts an archer shooting at raptors and an attendant capturing a raptor. A. H. Layard's statement in his 1853 book Discoveries in the Ruins of Nineveh and Babylon is "A falconer bearing a hawk on his wrist appeared to be represented in a bas-relief which I saw on my last visit to those ruins."
Only fitting that the tradition would carry on way past our understanding
50% detail shot - [link]
edit - fixed up the focus issues, added more foliage behind the bird, blurred the wing a bit more
edit again - more work on the bird, thx tascha

As a falconer, I had to comment. I like this a lot, and the thing that really allows me to identify with this piece is something rather odd - the bird seems to have quite a number of broken tail feathers (the position to me suggests the tail would be fanned), which is something the current falconers fret over quite a bit (Accipiters having a particularly hard time with it due to a longer tail that has little flexibility.) I'd imagine the falconers of the future will find it just as frustrating to both fly a bird to it's potential and try to keep her feather-perfect at the same time.
In addition to the previous comments about the wings, the legs are also slightly too close together, and the gear that runs in between the "ankles" of the bird makes me twitch. (it's a great way for the bird to become hung up somewhere - the jesses run straight down from each 'ankle' and are not tied together.)
The head and face are done very well, and I like how she seems to glare at the observer - a nicely captured accipitrine look there.
As for the non-bird part of the picture, it's wonderful. I love the movement the falling leaves give, and the fact that the bird and the tower are the first things your eyes go to.
>.> I rambled for quite a bit, but the take away message is that I like it.

I love the lighting you have colored in this piece, reminds me of an approaching storm before twilight. Dark yet so full of energy.

Hmmm, this is quite the interesting work. It's very....I hesitate to use such a comparison, but it is rather similar to a combination of Star Wars and the Lord of the Rings. Of course, I know that there are some fans of both who woudl call such a thing blasphemy. But that's the thought that occured to me when I looked at it.

The leaves feel a little flat, but otherwise, I like this one a lot. The city in the background is especially nice. I like the subtle rainbow as well. Marvelous.

cheers Marley, has it's downfalls just the same, i'm at the bit where i just don't know what direction to take, what to paint, used to have a solid goal, bored of using the same techniques over and over, i'm kind of out of my slump but not, if you know what i mean, hope you find your inspiration again soon man, cos your colours kill me

Oh, i sure do know what you mean there, martin, that comment cheers me up Exactly my issues word 4 word. Interestingly enough, i found i was able to place more colour in becuase i reduced the amount of clouds being used. Dark cloudy skies can only be a certain colour, vs an open sky?. I now paint less clouds as a result.
hehe
Thanks, Martin

Not too many people can have a truely vivid and beautiful imagionation.
And not many of them could transform it into a physical represntation with such detail and skill as you did.
You are truely extraordinary. Keep them coming.

How did I miss this? Excellent fantasy image, but I kinda agree with yelloworm about the birdie! It does seem to be the first thing to catch my eye but of course the image is still beautiful! Nice work nonetheless!

kill the owl.
pleaze.
it destroys yer pretty pic.
an idea:
make the owl so much smaller and perhaps closer to the female.
the first thing i saw when i saw yer painting was the owl...
but there's so much more...
i don't need to stare at the owl.
i need the rest of the lonliness yer piece suggests.

haha, man, i swear you're in my head , it was a quick idea i had just to fill up the image (i know that kind of spoils the illusion that i had a strong concept haha), i had this - [link] - kicking around my hd for a couple of weeks, completely stumped as to what to do with it, knew it needed more depth to make it work other wise it'd have stood as it was (the megastructure doesn't sit back enough by itself)
