Description
PsCS2 no ref722-705 BC - Assyrian Bas-relief found in the ruins at Khorsabad during the excavation of the palace of Sargon II (or Saragon II) has been claimed to depict falconry. In fact, it depicts an archer shooting at raptors and an attendant capturing a raptor. A. H. Layard's statement in his 1853 book Discoveries in the Ruins of Nineveh and Babylon is "A falconer bearing a hawk on his wrist appeared to be represented in a bas-relief which I saw on my last visit to those ruins."
Only fitting that the tradition would carry on way past our understanding
50% detail shot - [link]
edit - fixed up the focus issues, added more foliage behind the bird, blurred the wing a bit more
edit again - more work on the bird, thx tascha

I like this much more now that I realize it's a painting. My first thought was that it was some half baked digital stuff. With the whole falconry, the scene semed to me to be somewhat post apocolyptic, like a fall from grace. The city representing what once was and the falconer dressed in robes sybolized a... return to nature.

It would also make a beautiful illustration of Tolkien's hidden elf city of Godolin in the first age of middle earth. Absolutely stunning painting.

wow that's gotta be one of your best (read: my favourite) pieces i've seen in a while, great composition and beautiful detail...the atmosphere is really haunting..but not in a negative way...has this eerie/holy/epic feel to it. And the tower seriously kicks some!

Wow I'm favoriting this. Fo shizzle.
I would've like it better if you made feather details on the falcon's wings -- the leading edges closer to the body that aren't so blurry. Right now it looks too much like gray putty. Very attractive composition, beautiful building and falconer. Lighting and color can't be better. Love the storm atmosphere. Oh the grass and shrubbery could be blowing in the wind a bit more.

yeah, the bird could have some more work, but I am a little nitpicky! You should have maybe used some ref. for the bird (haha, and that's me saying that).
Great work as usual! Lovely depth, foliage and ground textures!

yeah i know, kinda owl/falcon hybrid with rubber wings
, fixed her up a bit but it still looks a bit odd, i'm going to start to use refs a bit from now, hit a block as to what i can do from the head, feels like i'm stagnating/repeating stuff, need to get creative again
cheers man
