The splash makes it look like a color explosion.

It'd be nice if the saturation and lightness of the sky matched it's reflection.
Good composition though

colour difference between the sky and water pool is insane, this has been photoshopped to death.

Wonderful!!! It has all my favorite elements!! The beach, a sunset, a colorful sky and reflective waters, and puddles in rocks!
Absolutely marvelous

I love it when a plan comes together.
I like those elements too, although I have to say I've been happier with some of my more recent shots. It's interesting what images sometimes get picked for DDs or features.
Thanks for the comment.

Wonderful shot. I love how vibrant the colors are. Kudos on timing the wave and positioning the sun behind the splash.

Trial & a lot of error.

the movement is fantastic in this, usually people try and keep the spray as sharp as possible, but this effect is so effective, it makes me want to take a step back and shield myself!

One of the benefits of a wide angle lens - they tend to exaggerate perspective. The splashes coming up here weren't that big, but it does seem like every time I shoot in this area (Turimetta, Sydney) I tend to get too close to the waves and end up frantically shielding my camera from some rouge wave. At least I'll dry & not stop working (hopefully). You would have thought I'd learned by now.

Well, it did take a few goes, but once I observed what was happening here I just set up the tripod where I wanted it, composed the image and then stood there with my IR shutter release taking a frame on each wave. So it was only a minute or two (with the waves coming in every 4 or 5 seconds) before I had a few usable images.
