Description
This past weekend, my family and I decided to take Josh on a day trip to Vancouver BC (Canada) and we visited the Capilano suspension bridge. We were on our way back over the bridge to the gift shop and I decided that I wanted a perspective photo of the bridge. Josh had already started walking over it, so I took the photo with him, thinking I could always edit him out if I needed to. Best thing was that when I looked at the photo, I found that it was much better with him in it than without. I scaled it to grey, boosted the whites and darkened the blacks a bit, and added negative space to enhance the visible area. I'm happy- mostly because Josh likes it.Related content

All I have to say is damn you! (I'm kidding, of course) The day I went to the bridge, it was raining and I couldn't get a decent shot of the bridge due to the people.
But lovely shot you managed to take. I'm amazed it wasn't raining as always.

Actually it was raining at the time, and even with all the people there, I would still have taken the photo. Black and white mode is often very good at making shots like that seem more artsy, so you might still have gotten something good if you'd lined it up just right.
Thank you!

Really? Hehe a few other people have mentioned that too, and I guess in some cases, I can see it. But you can't always make everyone happy, right? I appreciate the honesty very much, and thank you for the kind comment.

no i agree u cant make everyone happy, and it doesnt mean its not a brilliant picture, because it is! Great composition and effect, i just felt it was a little over worked, maybe too bright and too dark

Hehe no problem. I toned it down slightly in the print and the print sizes available made it necessary for me to change the aspect ratio a bit, so it looks slightly different. Hopefully it turns out well anyways.

Wow. Now this is just great. I don't know why I didn't see this before. The perspective, the light, the subject - it's all fantastic. It seems like a very mature photograph.

Oh, thank you! Josh and I are always so amused to find that so many people like this photo- he's conjectured that he obviously only looks good in photos when he's not looking at the camera and when he's unaware of the picture being taken.

Great shot, it's very symbolic, which i like a lot. Only suggestion would be to use a thick white border instead of black, i think then it would look symmetrical. Oh and if you ever get to go there again, i think you should take another photo but this time with the sun behind you. I've always been fan of looking at photos with the same exact subject but from a differnt angle

Hehe we'll see if that happens, but I doubt it. It's a fair drive from here, and if I did, it's unlikely that Josh would be with me at the same time. Still, it's a good idea. Thanks.
I tried white, but it was... odd-looking, to say the least. The white just looked dull, and the photo was extremely lacking. Unfortunate, but the black adds a nice negative space for an empty kind of atmosphere.

Oh alrite, yeah on second thoughts adding a white border would ruin that little piece of white in the photo. Good thinking

Beautiful work. I really like the strong contrast, especially how the bridge..thing sort of fades into the light, it looks awesome. I do feel that there's just a little too much negative space though - just a little, on the sides. But apart from that, nice shot

I like this picture a lot.. for it can have several different meanins/perspectives behind it.... which i like a lot. it may mean something to me.. but something totally different to someone else.. .. i like this picture because to me it feels lonely... and just dark... i really like it.
