I really like this one. The pop of color is just fun and perfect and the two different drawing styles compliment each other nicely. It looks a little shiny to be the old robot from the movie, but maybe this is just the robot when it was new and still being maintained. But the hotspots do look good, and he looks much more metallic. The only tiny thing that kind of bugs me is the middle claw. I can't tell if it's in front of or behind the rose. It appears to connect behind, but the rose appears to be in front of it. I also might have added some more shading along the bottom so the eye doesn't feel dragged to it.

Thank you! I didn't follow the reference very closely, so there are a lot of inaccuracies. Glad you like it!

Allo. I am with ProjectComment~
I have to say that, first of all, I am a very, very, big fan of the film, Laputa: Castle in the Sky. I've had many dreams since a child, of floating castles, and cities since. So when I say, that I completely enjoy this piece, I hope you understand the significance of that statement. Especially, that in an age of digital artists that allows them to pretty up their innate skill, this was well executed.Β
As someone, who has moved away from drawing and coloring, with traditional means, I commend the delicacy captured in this moment in which the robot carefully handles the flower. Although, the robot itself, while recognizable, could be tweaked in the future, to make said piece even better. For instance, the colors, while beautiful, are very bright and vibrant. I feel, that like in the movie, the colors could be muted a bit, into a softer, warmer tone. This robot, to me also seems to be newer. I recall the original robots to be covered in moss, and grass. While this rendering does capture the new, breath of life of the flowers, the older/ancient feeling is lost without that moss, or rust. I also noticed, the neck was a bit short, and the head a bit larger. It might just be your style involved, but yes. And perhaps, at some juncture, adding a background, or warmer colors might add to the depth of the drawing.Β
Otherwise, on a whole I believe you did a grand job. But even as grand as this is, there is always room for some improvement. Keep up the work and good luck.

Thank you for this critique! I'm really glad using traditional mediums worked well for it. Your suggestions are really helpful, I know I got a lot of the details wrong because I wasn't really using a reference very much. I guess I often lose patience with it and deviate from it, which is sometimes good but definitely leads to inaccuracies like you said.
I completely agree with the need to add moss and rust, it never really occured to me but now that you mention it I feel like I should have included it. Maybe I can improve this later.
Thank you very much again for your help!

I am not familiar with this film but your piece makes me curious to look it up! A critique: Be aware of graphite smudging. However, by looking at your other pieces that are so beautifully controlled, I would have to guess that this was intentional.
I love your use of mixed media here.Β I think the colors that you chose are wonderful and eye catching.
I can't stop wondering about this story, so I am off too look it up!Β
Keep up the amazing work!

Thank you very much for the critique! As a matter of fact, the graphite smudging was untentional. I will have to keep a closer eye on that next time.
I highly recommend the story, it's a classic from my childhood

This is just too precious! I love the contrast between the different mediums. It came together very well. Great job!

It is a lovely movie, but the Ghibli movies are amazing anyway!

I know right? They're all so beautiful. I think my favourites currently are Howl's Moving Castle and the Tale of Princess Kaguya, but it's so sad

I have yet to see the Tale of Princess Kaguya, but I hope to. Though I'm afraid that I will cry. (And I know I will)
